Miami Boating

Question for you South Florida boating experts, splashing boat in Miami for three days in March and was wondering what the "A list" destinations are?

BBB725 03-01-2011 09:25 PM

Intracoastal to Marathon is a great run

GLH 03-02-2011 03:50 AM

Hawks Kay Resort or Key West.

boatfreak 03-02-2011 04:20 AM

I wish I could join you on your splash but I'm afraid I have to work. I would think there would be someone down there you could hook up with that knows the area. A lunch run down to Gilberts or on to Holiday Isle would be fun. If you have the time for an overnight stay I would go on to Hawks Cay like GLH said.

Gary, in Miami go to Miami Beach Marina and have lunch at Monty's.

SkaterMike82 03-02-2011 09:33 AM

Gary you have so many places to go. I normally leave from haulover or miami to Elliot key hang out there and then run to my house in the keys. Also you have no name harbor in Key Biscayne right by stilt. Thats great hang out spot, boca chica or Scottys landing in the grove. I live here and know the waters like no tomorrow. When you go give me a call and we can hook up. Im always in the water.... Can't wait for this weekend......Mike 786-234-1435

Quick run down to Gilberts is good. Then of course Shooters in Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday is worth a run too.

Hawks Cay

I'm far from an expert but we just got home last night from So Fl. We stayed in Miami for a few then down to Hawks Cay. We day tripped and overnighted from there for 10 days. Great little spot to stay but I think we got there during the East coasters spring break so it was full of kids for the 1st few days. We went so many places I cant remember most of them and we had a great time everywhere.

Welcome to Miami, and I'm sure that was w/o tip.

And IMHO Shooter's is just about as BIG a waste of time that someone could possibly spend driving an HP boat from Miami up to PE on the outside and then having to idle for six days to get to that dump. Sorry but I've been there and my feet stuck to the "carpet", it's way past its prime.

only time Shooters may be worth the time is on Sunday for the hot bod contest, other than that it takes too long to get there from anywhere. Took me 40 minutes to go from 14th st causeway in Pompano, during the week, when its not all no-wake zones. Figure 1 to 1 1/2 hrs idling each way on the weekends from either PE or Hillsboro during manatee season. In that time in good weather I can run from Hillsboro to Biscayne Bay and have some real fun

PromoProducts-BP 03-03-2011 02:38 PM

Ya, the damn no-wake zones are a pain during the season. There's talk about making the no-wake zones permanent in that area... I'm praying that's not the case. Talk about destroying some good boating.

jasonmd2 03-04-2011 05:43 PM

Honestly shooters isn't even worth it even on Sundays...was there a couple weeks ago and it was pretty week. Then add the no wake zones like others have said and it's just not worth it.

I hope to God they don't make the no wakes zones permanent, you can't get anywhere, take a whole damn day to go a few miles.

39 Unlimited 03-04-2011 06:18 PM

Long no wake zones and new engines not a good combination

rchevelle71 03-05-2011 10:57 PM

Since were all dissin' shooters, I'll join in.

Prefer Two Georges and Bananna Boat inside Boynton inlet, and the Coves restaurant in Deerfield is now also Two georges.

Any thoughts on Jimmy Johnson's place in Key Largo; The Big Chill?

Any thoughts on Jimmy Johnson's place in Key Largo; The Big Chill?

Nice spot. Upper Keys is great boating. Very shallow at JJ's dock. Dock next store at the Mexican joint and walk over.

joefitness123 03-07-2011 08:10 PM

Big Chill..Good spot, have been there on numerous occasions with my X big ride...Have to get there early to park a bigger boat..As all slots might be taken..The rest is shallow water..

Nice place though..

Gary, the waters off of Fort Myers are so much nicer this time of year - you should bring that baby over this way and Wendel and I will help you shake the new smell off of that beauty. :)

derrickc 03-07-2011 08:41 PM

Great thread. It would be great to see some pics of these places for us non Floridians...

Hey Bob, you still loafing in Florida? Saw your boat in the Ft Myers run pictures. I would love to bring the boat over, only problem, no vehicle. Gonna do Biscayne Bay and the Keys this time around.

Tell Wendell hey for us.

Take care

Gary

Marginmn 03-07-2011 09:50 PM

Will do Gary. Here until sometime in May. Have a great time in the Keys. See you at the lake.

H20 Toie 03-11-2011 04:23 PM

We did a run down to Key Largo during the Miami boat show and that was fantastic. A rum runner and ahi tuna sandwich and your set at either Gilbert's or Pontoons

Got to get my boat down to Boca soon. Tried to go to the beach Sat. Our usual parking spot was about 50' behind the barrier for St Pattys day on Atlantic. Forgot about that. So went down to public area, past Glades Ave, but was packed with spring breakers. Went back to Spanish River park and that's not cheap parking. Guess more of the businesses, closed on Sat. like banks, stopped allowing parking because of trash or traffic. Really hard to find a spot anytime during season. Wasted good bit of the afternoon, since I started to go after 1. Only problem is dry storage is a lil steep for me to take on right now. But at least that's only a temporary problem.

We were at the St paddys fest on Atlantic, didnt get out on the water this weekend. We have been doing some work to the house for the last few months, and the boat hasnt been wet since New years day. Are you down in S. Florida permanent now?? Let me know, we'll get you out on a boat, it may not be the fastest ride, but still get around to the spots.

That sucks, I kinda stay away from Boca bash anyway, too many cops around to have a real good time, just about any given Sunday in that place is fun, but gotta keep it somewhat cool with the resort, and houses right there.

mittens 03-15-2011 07:51 AM

We are setting up the trip now, looks like the 25-27 we are going to pick the boat up in Ft. Myers, and then going to be looking for a place to tack it out on satruday and check some places out. maybe tampa area? who knows.

If any of you have ideas, or are around the gulf side of FL that weekend and want to be some tour guides let me know!

we will pick up the boat in Ft Myers on friday and hopefully have all saturday to play somwhere. either there or make our way back up the stat somewhat.

the boat is a Donzi 28zx, (T-350Mags)

Since your picking it up in Ft Myers a good spot would be from Sanibel out to Cabbage key, it is on the inside, but at WOT, so your protected, but get to haul azz. See my video below, this is heading North just past cabbage key, but you can run the whole way, about 25 - 30 miles. If you get over to the east coast of FL let me know, and maybe we can meet up for a :drink:

Thanks for the invite and I believe having any boat in Fl qualifies as awesome. My girl lives in Boca. Try to get down every couple of weeks. My business is in SC but hope to be full time one day. Just hope I'm not 70.
