Dollabill is correct. Most marine surveyors do a visual inspection of the engines only, myself included. We always recommend a certified mechanic do the engine survey.
However, there is one SAMS surveyor based out of Forked River, NJ who does both. He's merc certified. He does mostly damage claims, but I'm sure he'll do a pre purchase survey. I highly recommend him. Here's his info.
