We got off to a slow start today and for a while it did not look like we would get to Bequai in the Grenadines. We started out shortly after 10 AM and could not get the boat on plane. Mechanically the boat seemed to be fine but it felt like we were dragging something. We slid up on the sand beach in front of our hotel to examine the hull and props. We could not believe the growth of algae and barnacle like crust on the hull after just 2 weeks away. When backing off the beach, we picked up some sand and shells in the strainer and as you can see in the pic, some sort of small fish. Never seen that before. We then returned to the marina and found a diver to clean the bottom and hardware while we had lunch. Problem solved and we were on our way but it was into the afternoon. We headed south and between St Lucia and St Vincent we saw two humpback whales together a few hundred yards straight ahead. I came off plane and we waited 10 minutes for them to come back up with cameras ready, ( see pic of Hans ) but no luck. It was quite a sight and all of us fortunately saw them. Water conditions we unbelievably smooth as you see in the pics. It was dark by the time we got back but after that slow start, it turned out to be an awesome day in the eastern Caribbean. In pic one the guy I am giving the CAN flag to goes from boat to boat in the anchorage in Rodney Bay selling fresh fruit. When there last I noticed he had a US and British flags as well as a few others but none from Canada so I brought him one this time.

St Vincent pics. Volcanic and mountainous like the others. Very picturesque. Lots of hillsides cleared and built upon. I have no idea how they get to some of them.

In a few hours we will leave St Lucia and start making our way back north. Later today we hope to be in St Kitts where we will spend 2 days then up to St Bartt's / St Maarten and finally back to the BVI, weather permitting. Right now it looks very doable. I hope we have a few more boating days like yesterday.

In St Kitts
We had a late start again today with it taking an hour and a half to clear customs to leave but after another great afternoon on the water we covered the 250 miles north to St Kitts. We are only 55 miles from St Maarten. A very interesting day on the water and more pics to post later tonight. Passing Monseratt and seeing the devastation caused by the volcano was mind blowing. It must still be active as we could smell the sulphur and see lots of smoke. More on this and other happenings later tonight. Off to dinner with the group.
