Windship Helicopter
So, I am cutting through some chop today at Lake Lanier at 110 mph when right behind and I mean right behind I hear this police siren.
My first thought is there are no friggin police boats on this lake that can do anything close to this speed. I then turn and look up to see a helicopter that looks just like the new MTI Windship I just saw in Miami. It's then I see John waving and laughing and I figure it out. Scared the chit out of me for a second. Thought I was going to jail for something. I can't wait to see the boat half of the Windships on some of the poker runs this year. Dan |
OMG,, how funny.... cool story,,,, what are the odds of that happening Dan?.... Does he live close too you ??
Have u seen his 48 on the water yet?....Its supposed to be at DS, so I can't wait to see it in person..... |

He does and this is his "home" lake I understand. I would think he was down in Fla this weekend for the run. I have not seen the boat but once in Miami.

John is a very cool dude and one helluva pilot.
We were completely surrounded by serious thunderheads in Jacksonville and he's calm as chit (I'm trying to appear calm, but I am most definitely not calm )... he says: "We'll just put er down on the beach if we have to." I'm glad it didn't come to that. He loves that helicopter. For those of you that don't know, his great-grandfather invented Coca-Cola. :cool-smiley-011: http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/5786/jax091094.jpg |

That could be one reason why he can afford his toys... |

John (and Nancy) are very good, down to earth, cool people. I had the pleasure of riding on his MTI Windship when it was mearly a week old. It was also my first experience with Mercury's 1350's. Amazing boat, amazing people. If you ran into Nancy and John in the bar, you'd never know his background. He's the kind of guy you just can't help but be happy for regarding his success in life.
Here's the story of our run on Windship and a couple of pics from the test. His beautiful boat graced the cover of PBM last issue as well. http://www.powerboatmag.com/tank-sears-blog/ |

We were out with them last night and while playing around on a Sea Doo speedster today he buzzed us with the siren while at Port Royale.
Dan I think we saw you running opposite of Port Royale headed south. |

Next best thing to power boating, flying helicopters low and fast. Both of these are really nice rides.

Everybody knows about Coke, but one the neat things his family did here in Atlanta is the Woodruff Arts Center. As a child my parents took me there often.
I have also wondered if his boat was named after the cancer research facility here at Emory and if they are involved in that also. Is it a coincidence it is named Windship? Somebody who knows him ask if you get a chance. Just curious. |
Dan, you and John both better come by the house and give me a ride in those beautiful boats sometime this summer.

We have plenty of room in our boat and as does John. You and Tammy are more than welcome to come up, or you solo. Any weekend you have time, shoot me a PM or call me and you are in, brother. Bring extra shorts. I remember how my jet affected you. Dan |
There it is. Do you have anything from the row behind that one? We were on my 370.

John and Nancy are truly two of the nicest people you will ever meet. Cool toys too......:drink::drink:

Hi guys,
When I hit the siren they both just about jumped out of their seat. Sorry about that but it was obvious you had no idea the chopper was 30 feet off your port stern, an opportunity that couldn't be passed up. We have a video and will post it soon as I figure out how. I will have the floating Windship on Lake Lanier April 22nd weekend. The Cancer institute at Emory is named after my great Uncle's middle name, Winship. He put the moniker "Windship" on the Coca-Cola Jets many years ago, as when you ride in a Gulfstream all you hear is wind. All my activities create wind in one way or another therefore the moniker stands to reason. |

Congrats on the new 48 MTI! I was blown away by it at the Miami Boat Show when I saw it!

My mother is sick with cancer now and I appreciate all that your family has done in that area, the arts center and all the other very generous endevors you support. We would love to invite you and your wife to the Chatannoga Fun Run poker run if you have time. I think I saw you signed up for the Tennessee River Run, also. Perhaps the Hartwell Run could be fit into your scheddule. I know you are active with the FPC, but we would consider it an honor to include you in these local runs, also. Thanks for the surprise last weekend. Dan & Kim |
Yes, welcome John!
Boat did look great in Miami. I'm stealing the cabin and cabin access idea off your 48! Any pics of how it latches? Took some of the stairs and mini-cabin but none of the hinges or latches. |

Here's what happens when the pilot is not prepared for the boat captain to "shower down on it" and then let off instantly. I keep telling these baot guys, if you want to be in the video keep a constant speed anywhere below 120 knots. :evilb: |
Great to see you here John. Welcome!!
I have been speaking to Beau and I'll be glad to help with the Lanier Event. I'll see you on the Lake Memorial Day weekend. Greg Harris |

April 23, we'll take a leisurely cruise up the lake with a camera in the air. Noon

The latches just slam shut and lift to open, flawless. MTI is A plus throughout especially the heat and A/C I requested for those cool mornings or hot afternoons.

Cool vid John...thx for sharing.... U taking the 48 to Desert Storm?...:drink:

Not this year. Long way to go for a tree day event but it is fun. Went with Woods last year and the Naked pirates cove restaurant bar is off the hook. 1000 boats pulled up on shore.
THEY GOT NO TREES, JUST ROCK, oh and blue flashing lights |

John I sent you a message on Facebook with some details of a run for this year.
Beau |
Okay, my question is two parts:
(1). all things equal (beautiful day for flying or boating with plenty of powerboats running over water you can fly freely) do you prefer the airborne windship or the water one? (2). how close did they get to the recipe? http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radi...riginal-recipe |
