2011 APBA Greenwood Lake Spring Nationals
1 Attachment(s)
May 14th and 15th the Lake Hopatcong Racing Association will be hosting the Spring Nationals right here on Greenwood Lake NJ. After a 12 years reprieve thunder on the water will be back once again to crown a champion on a one mile race course on the south end of the lake. We have been working very hard with the racers, Lake Hopatcong Racing Association and the APBA to bring this once famous event back to our local lake. But we need HELP....With such short notice it has been very hard to find sponsorships for this event. Its all in place and money has been sent out but if we cant recover costs then there will be no next year....We need local or distant companies to sponsor a race boat. If you can help out please PM me and Ill get you info. Sponsorship is $400.00 and that gets your company name on a boat and that boat becomes known for the whole weekend as its sponsor. The P.A. announcer will use your name during all heat races and the final shootout. To me that sounds like some great publicity for little money and its a great cause. Also just by attending to watch will help greatly. We will have food and beer vendors on site as well as a great spectators views of the race. So please come out and have a great time and help us keep this sport ALIVE..

Sharkey-Images will be there to cover this event.
Finalized the agreement this afternoon and look forward to two great days of racing !!! :) Anyone that can make it to spectate and support this event will certainly help a great deal to see this become an Annual Event as it was in the past. Could even be a great time for an OSO Spring Get Together !!! :drink: http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...p687727925.jpg |
Thats great Tim. Im sure we will see you there and we will all have a great time.
Thanks for your support. Nordic95

i have been waiting for this race to return to the lake for years! Stomper will be out there with our regular crew of performance boats watching the races. we are all locals to the lake and if the crew needs any assistance with anything, please do not hesitate to ask. i run a business locally in hewitt, nj and live across the street from the lake in NY. I am willing to assist with anything to make this race a regular stop again.

I'm also local and plan on attending. If anyone has any questions about the area please don't hesitate to PM me. I've been here all my life and will answer as best as i can. I originally heard it was only Saturday but it looks like its a two day event now. Nice!

Came across the Facebook pages for the event the other day in case anyone is interested:
Page One Page Two The first is an open "fan page" and the second requires the creator of the page to add you to the list to view it. Should be a good time, I plan on being there both days and if anyone needs any info from a local feel free to PM me. I have a quaint little B&B right down the road from here and I could squeeze a boat or two in the yard if anyone needs a place to lay up. Also, the lady who owns the marina down the street (almost right across from the B&B) will rent you a slip for the night if I ask her but its a small place and I'd say a 22 or 23 footer is the max. Greenwood Lake
Where's a good place to watch from land ?
|
Browns Point Park in West Milford is where they have all the concession stands and the pits. That's probably the only public place you can get a good view from.

Greenwood Lake
Thanks, I'll be there

I plan on going. The APBA INBOARD POWERBOAT CIRCUT is making a nice come back here in New Jersey. The hydros, flatbottoms and skiffs always put on an exciting show! Thanks to all involved for making this happen.

How cool is that?!
I grew up in Vernon and dad kept our boat on Greenwood Lake when I was a kid. I have such fond memories of that area. I had no idea there ever was racing on that lake. |
Racing starts tomorrow !!!
Hope to see many of you there ! :drink: http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...p687727925.jpg |
I`ll be there...................

Hey guys we spent all day setting up the park today and its looking great. So far we have 50 registered boats to race in and handful of different classes. We have a beer stand, food concessions and a few boat dealers showing up. So if your in the area or not far please come out and support us.
Gates open at 10 am sharp and racing starts at 12 noon. Admission is: 10.00 per adult 5.00 per child 12-17 under 12 is free. FREE PARKING If you keep your wristban on for a Sunday return admission is half price. You can also purchase a pit pass wrist ban that gains you access to the pits so you can mingle with all the drivers and see the boats up close. This will cost an extra 10.00 but is good for both days. So as you can see its a very cheap weekend so bring the whole family and come se some white knuckle racing on the beautiful Greenwood Lake located in West Milford NJ. http://www.recreationparks.net/NJ/pa...t-west-milford Also the Nation Aerobatics competition will be going on at our local airport just 2 mile away from this event. So keep your eyes in the sky or take a ride over to Greenwood Lake Airport and see the excitement. If any one comes out from this site look or ask for me I like to meet members. I will have a safety green event staff shirt on running around like a mad man. Nordic95 Anthony R. |
Thanks for all your hard work Anthony. I'm planning on being on the water with some friends all day on Saturday and having a few while we watch the races but if the weather is lousy on Sunday you might see me in the pits on Sunday. I've been spreading the word over on this end of the lake.

Thanks again for everything Anthony !!
I am looking forward to covering this event. :drink: See you bright & early ! ;) ------------------------------------------------------------- John, All images are now online from last weekend. I just sent out an email to everyone, but I did not have yours. I think you might find one or two you might like !;) http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/hudsonspringrun2011 :drink: |
What a weekend at the APBA Races !!!
The weather could have been better but the volunteers managed to get the races off on both days. Sunday had a 1.5 hour delayed start due to fog. They got a window of opportunity from about 1:30 to 4:30 and got all of the races in just in time for the next rain shower. All in all, the weekend was a success. After all, there were a few Offshore people there that donated their time to help get this event back on the lake after an 11 year absence. Some key people I really need to thank is Anthony Rogasich and his entire family. They hooked me up BIG TIME this past weekend. (Pics to come if I get permission! ) Sean & Cathy Rice with their efforts all at the event and Paul "HOTBOAT" for an incredible meal he prepared for all of us at the end of the day on Saturday !!! I would also like to thank the Lake Hopatcong group and the Greenwood Lake guys that all came together to make this happen. I was glad not have missed this event. Met a lot of new great people from all over the country as well as Canada. Many have already been asking if I could attend other events coming up. :) Currently processing the images. I will post some as time allows... Here is the main link to the event: http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/20...sapbanationals Enjoy ! :) http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...71445773-4.jpg http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...13580304-4.jpg http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...25670521-4.jpg http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...23832729-4.jpg http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...12990094-4.jpg |

Nice job Tim, thankyou for covering the APBA inboard races.
Alot of down to earth folks put their all into these boats, with equally dedicated race producers and officials that give it their all without economic reward. I trust you quickly felt part of this family :) |

I trust you quickly felt part of this family :) Everyone had given me a warm welcome and offered anything I needed to help make the weekend a success! One even went as far as carrying me on their back over the water to get me out to one of the tow boats so I could get closer to the action. I was given a picture of that moment last night... :drink: Great times with some great people. I am looking forward to getting their prints to them... As bad as the weather was, I think some shots had an interesting look to them.... ;) http://sharkeyimages.zenfolio.com/im...28826220-4.jpg |
