Your experience and empirical data have been very helpful.

Guess the four year platinum warranty is worth the money.

I did not know a 4th year was available, and my case the 3rd year warranty, did not pay for itself.

If I add up the coil, ingition harness, solenoid and alternator, thats still less the the cost of the 3rd year warranty. I had opted for the 3rd year because of the constant drive failures. Once that was resolved, I really did not need the 3rd year.

Comment:

The engines come with a two year factory warranty. You can then buy a Platinum 2 year warranty from Mercury for total coverage of 4 years... cost is $3,400 per motor. This gives you 4 years of coverage can't beat it in my opinion.

You can buy just an additional one year but why.

One lower unit is $7,000 with the case...ouch.

In any event, you are a credit to the boards always helpful and have great data on your boat/motor/props.

Thanks for all your help and hope to one day boat with you!

FYI: Within the last year a couple moved locally who own a Howard deck cat (all yellow) with a Teague 1,000. Very cool boat.
