About 8 miles before the turn at Bimini it turned smooth and then the turbine boats started catching us and passed us as we were going around the turn, we had made it 5-6 miles back towards Miami when we passed Mercedes going the other way so we had a 10-12 mile lead on them at that point and we were around two miles behind the turbines about half way back and it started getting rough so we started making up some distance on them then when we were about 12 miles out Jim decided he wanted to try to catch them and put the throttle on the dash and about a quarter mile later we broke a prop, we stopped to see what was causing the vibration, found an ear gone on the prop so we started heading back around 40 mph mainly on the other engine with the broke prop engine only running 1000-1200 rpm after a few miles we started seeing rooster tails catching us.. We figured we were around 8 miles out and they were around 8 miles behind us so as long as we averaged half there speed we would still win, they were getting close and then the last mile Jim went ahead and gassed it to cross the Finnish line running strong and then around a minuite later the Mercedes crossed the line...

I think pure platinum broke a few blower belts but they did still Finnish not too long after..

I would not have wanted to be in pure platinum trying to keep up with Jim, that is alot smaller boat and there were times that he would be back behind us pretty far then come running up on us fast, so at some points they had to be running at least 30 mph faster then us.. if you notice I had my camera aimed at them for along time because each time they would come running up on us I figured I would get a good flip on tape.

I think it had something to do with the duct tape holding the bottom on in the pits after the run...

JBS was hauling AZZ but got a little off course. They did take first over all in the end and Statement took second overall. We were third overall but the first piston boat. Gino was some of the roosters in the vid at first but they had navigation challenges as well as getting beat up a little by the waves. Its a little harder then it looks to stay on course if nobody is around and or your GPS fails or isn't set right . Its a real 106 mile race!! No looking back or second chances if you break or get off course. Its a fun race for everybody to do once. Its really not a big deal if you take first place but simply that you made it to Bimini and back in whatever boat you take.

Sounds Good Jim.... 106miles of open ocean racing...unreal. I can't wait to see footage of this years race.. Ya watching your in board camera, I couldn't see land and was hopeing you guys were on course.. Kinda nerve racking out in the ocean like that... Now I see how important the GPS is.... I had no idea that you lost sight of land for such a long period of time.... Man oh Man, if you break out there,,, that would be a scarey thought.....

We just ran 117 miles in the 28 Skater last weekend. Plenty of range to make the race. Still had a quarter tank left. If anybody has an open cockpit 28 Skater or simular please go and lets have some fun old school!! We could all pitch in and first takes it all !!
