Go Pro HD Tips?
I have the Go Pro HD camera with the suction cup mount and also the extreme surfboard 3M mount.
I am going to try and use it this weekend to get some good video of rough water running in my 28 Pantera. I was thinking of mounting it on the bow of the boat and pointing it back at the cockpit. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to get some good footage? I am pretty excited. :drink: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/DSC00341.jpg |
I saw a couple videos of people mounting them on the transom and the videos looked cool. It was really neat seeing the prop come out of the water and all that jazz.
|
I put a "backup" tether on mine, just in case the suction cup fails...hasn't so far, but you never know. :drink:
I've done a few different angles...on the outboard engine cowl looking down at the gearcase...one on the transom starting under water looking at the nose cone and pad, and also on the side of the hull looking forward. Have fun!!! |
I just got mine, but use the teather also, just worried about it.
On another boat the guy had it mounted to a pole he swung around. His video had some great shots going under the water at idle. Then holding it up watching the crew bouncing around to hanging out the side of the boat. I was inpressed with the video, but the guy obviously knew what he was doing. |
What ever you do, do not point it at the gas gauge :)
Boat videos are supposed to be fun to watch. |
I agree with the comments to tether it so no one ends up eating it ( mine has never come loose as well ) and also to move around to try various angles. Easily done with the suction cup mount. You can then edit the best of each angle to come up with an interesting video.

What setting are you using? Seems to take forever for youtube upload to. Been using R4, believe this is 720p.

I programmed mine to shut the screen off 15 seconds after I turn the camera on so the battery will last longer. I don't need to see the screen the entire time I'm recording something. Buck |

from 2010 KW, when put in a spot where you think you may lose it zip tie it! On the race boats I always zip tie them, the suction cup has always held! |
how do you first get this thing working?
I opened it up and put in the battery and plugged in what I think is the charging cord. Does it take a while to charge up? I cant find anything in the nstructions. I guess I will leave it overnight and check it tomorrow. |
when the light goes out, its charged
|
I would like to also know what setting you are using

I guess I will leave it overnight and check it tomorrow. Make sure the USB charging cord is completely plugged in to the camera. I couldn't get my charging light to come on for some time. Figured out I needed to push the plug fairly hard to make it click into the camera. No red light, no charge. They do need to have a decent amount of charge before they will power up. Mine can be a little quirky if it doesn't have a decent charge. Turning it on while it's charging can be a pain too. Mine doesn't like to do it sometimes. I usually have to unplug mine before I can turn it on. I use the highest quality setting I can while shooting video. I purchased the 32 gig card so space isn't a big deal to me. The card will outlast the battery, and I move the vids from the stick to my external hard drive when I get home anyway. The quality of video from these things in HD mode is pretty amazing from a camera this cheap. I intend to get another battery for mine. 2.5 hours isn't enough to utilize the card memory, and I'm not always somewhere that I can charge it easily. Not to mention it doesn't charge very fast either. Buck |

I have it. Works great and does what it's supposed to. Also gives me the option to watch the video with my GoPro instead of having to hook it up to a tv or computer to view it. This comes in handy when there isn't a computer close by.

The camera comes with 2 housings. One has openings and the other has a tiny pin hole. He is using the pinhole one that gets sounds, but no wind noise.
EDIT: I am wrong !!!! I should have looked at mine before posting wrong info. Just checked and it does not have any openings. It does say in the directions to use the closed housing if there will be a lot of wind noise or high speed driving. Sorry guys !!!!!!! |

Whenever I use mine on the boat, I always use the underwater case, which has no holes and is sealed tight. Although, it will pickup the sound and limit the wind noise. For the money, these little cameras are hard to beat.
Also, if you watch any kind of outdoor event, sports, X-games, etc, they are all using the GoPro's. :drink:

Nice vid! Did you do anything special to avoid wind noise as I am impressed how little there is?

I used mine the other day. Started off great with real clear video, then got a halo effect around center of camera after 4-5 minutes of recording. Is it building up condensation inside the case or what? Will sell what case I was using, thought it was the under water one.
