My question does the 400 series pre loaded maps have depth

Yes, my 440 shows depths and clearly shows where the channels are. Has been worth its weigth in gold when we've taken trips out of town.

If you have a West Marine close to you I would go in and play with a few models and see how you like them. That way you know for sure what you're getting.

I just bought and installed the 441s with transponder. I love it so far and haven't bought the BlueChart card yet.

My original depth finder was old and more than "off"... The new one is so much better, but thats why I got the depth finder with it.

Second thing is once you buy maps they are outdated the second you buy them because the water is always changing, so in reality you should get new maps every year. I would bet if you bought a 2011 map it probably data from 2010 anyways so you are already a year behind.

When you buy the extra maps and Bluechart you get unlimited free updates on that particular map. So every time they are updated you just plug it into your computer and download the latest version.

thanks nice to know that. I know Garmin likes to rape you over the coals after you buy a unit on their maps.

so would you guys say a model like this is a better buy than a used 176 or 276 type Garmin
