One way to steal some engines

Or I guess you could say this boat is "for sale, half off". This boats coming up and I found the particular way they removed the engines interesting.

tomtbone1993 06-07-2011 10:28 PM

that is unbelivable.....that sucks

REDS32 06-07-2011 10:32 PM

Turn it into a outboard boat!

Sydwayz 06-07-2011 10:39 PM

Rudimentary, but incredibly efficient!

I almost can't wait for the threads 4 years from now when some newb finds this thing on a dirt hill this and wants to rebuild it.

Revd Up 06-07-2011 10:42 PM

Strip Poker 388 06-07-2011 11:14 PM

We were at the Tickfaw 200 years back and they did a 30+ Fountain the same way,cut it right in half,Weird sight to see passing it going down the highway.

PhantomChaos 06-07-2011 11:17 PM

Wow that is something! I bet Spectre has never done that to check the build quality. Is the bottom made of wood?

He's lucky they didn't use a chainsaw on the boat and strip his trailer like they did mine. :hothead:

carter38 06-08-2011 03:37 AM

Looks like they stole a back tire to go with it.

Rottiguy 06-08-2011 04:55 AM

I could use the switch panel and the throttles...

Quinlan 06-08-2011 06:11 AM

Somebody did the same thing to a 35 Outlaw that Uglys had waiting to go into boatshow a few yrs ago.
All for some 496s to.

intotwins 06-08-2011 06:24 AM

All that and they left the cup holders!!!

SS930 06-08-2011 06:28 AM

Looks like any other 30 Spectre to me! :D

I'm sure it's a very quick way to 'disconnect' everything, but it makes me wonder how they lifted and carted off the 'good' half... that's an awkward and heavy piece to walk off with. Tow truck, flat bed with a winch?

Nort,
I believe that is the coring material we are seeing. Unbelieveable how they did that. They cut it where the trailer bucks are gapped for travel lifts straps would slid in! Bastards!:angry-smiley-038:

40gt 06-08-2011 07:10 AM

Unbelievable, I had to look twice to see what the problem was.

GLH 06-08-2011 08:17 AM

Heard about things like that but had never seen it so graphic...

So they take gauges worth $80 each and leave the throttle and shifter worth $2k...

not to mention pulling the throttles and shifters is a 5min job. anyone that has pulled gauges knows thats no piece of cake. it took some time

outriggers 06-08-2011 08:29 AM

Those battery powered saw-zaw's they sell at the box store's open up alot of options. Locks are for Honest people.

HiPerf2000 06-08-2011 08:46 AM

seems like its too straight and smooth of a cut for a sawzaw ???

Pantera1 06-08-2011 09:02 AM

Sad : (

scarab63 06-08-2011 09:08 AM

Throttles prob easier to I.d. by a passer by of the next boat these will go into. Motors will be hidden and gauges are pretty generic for the most part. I know I'd be looking everywhere if my shht got taken. Big$ throttles are eye candy that'd b ez to spot. Idk. Just my train of thought.

northernoffshore 06-08-2011 09:17 AM

I want the seats.

Mr. Demeanor 06-08-2011 09:22 AM

Just a very invasive surveyor. Good news is the stringers look solid.

Ryan Beckley 06-08-2011 10:05 AM

those pics make me sick.....

SHAWN DAVIS 06-08-2011 10:21 AM

That was our Spectre "TOP CAT" had our 1300 hp whipple blown motors, we sold it to a fellow Dave Suddoth up in Colorado. Had B max drives and ran right at 170 mph. That thing would accelerate like a monster.
Gess he had it for a year or so then we heard about the "half off" situation!
ps anyone sees one bright yellow 572's w r980 whipples same color you know where they came from!

Sure looks like they took their time to make a nice cut.

The Outlaw here in OK was a chainsaw job and was a JAGGED cut.... I have a few picutres of it somewhere..

If you look close, the cut is forward of the gap in the bunks,
for the lift straps. It is also crazy straight.

It think there is more to this story.

Keith Atlanta 06-08-2011 12:30 PM

WTF - Has to be fake! It would have been easier and less time consuming to steal the whole boat! Heck, they got the serial numbers with the transom so they have the part with the most liability anyway!

SHAWN DAVIS 06-08-2011 01:07 PM

read my post above
not fake

SDFever 06-08-2011 01:38 PM

Straight Cut

This was a wrecking yard cut with not a lot of experience to do it.

The accuracy of the cut makes people think it took a while.. Not so.

The one that was done here in town actually cut a rub-rail screw in half during the first and only cut.. Crazy.

I'm sure they did, then took what they wanted then kindly returned it somewhere.

A 5 ton flat bed with a HIAB lift, tarp it down and nobody knows there is a boat under wraps.

A friend had his 30 Velocity stolen years ago, didn't know it was gone, gets a phone call in the middle of the night from the police..... excuse me sir, your 20 foot baot is burning on a back road, I own a 30 foot boat, well there is 20 feet of boat burning with your reg. #'s on it. They cut the last 10 feet off, loaded evrything and drove away.
If he would have noticed it gome before the police called him, they would have been looking for a 30 foot boat on a trailer, not 10 feet of something under a tarp on a flat bed.

Nah, then they just have more sh*t to cut up and dispose of.

Its a shame, they did nice work. We probably could have hired them back in hole-cut at Baja and made an honest living.:drink:

Shawn, any pics of the engines you can post? It would be nice to have them 'seen' here so we all know what exactly to look for... ;)

I posted one close to the ones stolen, just the blowers, valvecovers blocks were yellow in the Spectre. In the photo
section.

The entire boat was stolen, taken from a storage facility, turned up a few months later cut.

I bought a Sthil gas powered 14" diamond partner saw for just this kind of thing (not striping stolen boats :D) I've purchased several boats for drivelines or trailers and use it to cut up whats left and with a large diameter blade its very easy to do long very straight cuts. That cut would have taken maybe a minute and a half possibly two minutes at most. I've done it, rigging, cables, rubrail, etc. all still in boat and it cut right through everything like butter lol.

(editors note- this was not Cardshark :D)

Wet-N-Wild 06-09-2011 10:10 PM

You can get the switch panels from jay, he probably knows who made the throttles. Give him a call 727-773-5603 he has my boat right now, putting new through bolted rub rail on it and replacing the through hull hyd fittings for the trim cylinders.

When I got my panels from him I didn't think they would fit because of the curve, but they were perfect.
