In the meantime, entry-level boaters should seriously consider the Checkmate line. I think Baja got more innovative on styling (as mentioned), but Checkmate is still building some nice machines. Let's focus as well on supporting those boat manufacturers that are still in business.

I couldn't agree more, which is why, as I reckon you noticed, I included the words, "with the notable exception of Checkmate" in my article.

In this case, all roads seem to lead to Doug Smith. (For those who might not know, Smith founded Baja and owns Checkmate.)

lots of people bash baja but most ownes of them love them and would buy another. like stated grat starter go fast boats!
