From what I hear, Jim Lee made it to Bimini but broke a motor. (no details of what broke) but was going to make repairs and continue to come back.

"PORSCHE DESIGN"

Sorry, I was out shooting this morning during the drivers meeting and got in late last night, so I was unable to get any info at this time of who is in what boat....

Thanks for you comments on the images... :drink:

Mayo5oh 06-17-2011 03:10 PM

if its porsche design it MUST be gil dezers boat! huge porsche fan, wether he was on the boat or not is questionable though. i have detailed his fairline targa, very cool guy.

They had a nice set up in the pits.
Once I find time I will load those at a later time.
This event is so far beyond top shelf !
Great Pit Area and the facilities are incredible...

So How many boats did the run??

Matt Trulio 06-17-2011 05:23 PM

Final update of the day, http://speedonthewater.com/in-the-ne...nterviews.html.

Pete, this should answer your question, though I believe there is still one boat unaccounted for on my list. (I've been working with Brad Schoenwald via mobile phones—his and mine—today and the connections have not been great.)

Mayo5oh 06-17-2011 05:31 PM

wait lol i just read the article. the first boat went there AND back in an hour?

Pete B 06-17-2011 05:34 PM

Thanks Matt,
Glad to get a update, in South America working so unable to attend. Where are all the big Guns??

I posted a shot of each boat that made the start. Only other one that I know that came out and then went back in before the start was INFINITY.

So at best a showing of 9 or 10 boats.

I understand Pyburn's Skater had issues at the Poker Run last weekend. There is also a Poker Run this weekend A-Bay. I believe Aqua-Mania is there and maybe a few other boats.

Some big stuff will be out on Sunday. Cintron Cat to go against Geico.

Class 1 is supposed to loaded with all sorts of competition...

I was only in the pits this morning before having to get out on the water. I hope many of the OPA teams were still on the road because there were very few as of this morning...

Time will tell.

With that kind of number, I would bet this would be the last Bimini Run. :(

I heard 15 boats, about a hour ago 7:30 PM. It's too bad the bimini run turn out was weak. Almost sounds as though each boat could have its own photographer. Thanks for the updates.

Leaving to go over there now....

We made it back, on one engine.

How long did it take you to get back, Tyson? From what I read, it sounds like you were on one engine near Bimini.

Pete, Whoever told you 15 boats for the OPA race was dead wrong unless approximately 10 more boats arrived in 30 minutes ???

There are about 25 boats with race numbers on them in the lot at the moment. I hear more will be arriving tomorrow. They are still on the road. ! specifically is Cleveland Construction. Talkn' Trash was to be here but I just heard it is at TnT with water in one of the engines. Final count isn't known until race day....:drink:

well as I heard about 25 boats as of Saturday night, still not a huge turn out. The effort that goes into putting this event on!

Cool story update from the Bimini run, courtesy of Brad Schoenwald: To get Jim Lee's 28' Skater back from the island, where it limped in on one outboard engine, the boat got towed back on plane and then return, with Lee driving, on one engine at 60 mph.

Just got home and wasn't able to give a report. Made it to the Bimini turn and was heading back and stripped a gear in the left hand lower unit. Went to Bimini looking for some parts or a lower unit that would work. People thought they had some so we ate at a nice place with local people. In the end they didn't have the right parts and we headed back on one engine. If you catch the right wave you can surf the 28 on plane. Or you can have a boat pull you like a skier with Tyson on the front of the boat until its on plane and let go of the rope there you go. No biggy its the Ocean and you do what you have to to get home :) We did 45 to 55 MPH all the way back and completed the entire distance plus a little. It was a great exsperiance a we will do it again!! Thats the offical Jim and Tyson Bimini race report. IT WAS FUN!!!!!!:drink:

What speeds were you running before the lower went?

We were running around 75-77 mph trying to be easy on it till we made the turn then we were going to run harder on the way back.

I watched my video from the go-pro and we were in third place a little less then 6 min behind the leader when we made the turn at Bimini, when I get a good Internet connection I will start posting some videos
