new cat supposed to win loto shootout
 

longtime lurker, first time poster.


i stumbled upon some article somewhere on the internet on my phone about a week ago about a new 53 foot cat that is slated to be the new offshore record holder.

i remember the boat was orange, 53 feet, and the bow was some kind of wild. i couldn't get a good look because my bb screen is only 3".

i KNOW someone here knows what i'm talking about, so if y'all could help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated.

i don't recall, but i assume it's the speed record for an offshore boat. i remember miss geico taking the cake with 210mph, so that's my best guess.

I believe he's talking about Copelands Phenomenon...Do a search on here (or on the internet) lots of articles..

True they ran into problems it has 4 turbines not even close to 200mph:party-smiley-004:

When was this? I talked with Scott Barnhart over there around Christmas time and they were getting close to testing at that time.

Did the article say it was going to be at the Shoot-out this year? If so they've got some pretty stiff competition to surpass to "win" the shoot-out.

I find that hard to beleive!

yep, that's what i saw. guess it's 56 feet.

it appears the boat's a lot older than i thought, but that's alright. i do hope it eventually does something special.

2009 Key West Worlds was the first time for public for that one... looked thru it with a fine comb.

From what I remember on previous readings this is a son living out his dad's dream right? And I beleive the first time in water it had some major issues

Agreed.....WAY to cool of a story and project to give up on!

Hopefully they are just testing and re-testing (quietly) and will come out to the shootout and show the world what 240mph looks like!!!

Yeah there hasn't been much news on the Phenomenon boat in quite some time.

i was at copelands shop two weeks ago and they had run the boat the day before so it def isnt shelved. theyre having a couple issues but nothing major.

Any word on how testing is going?

It would be cool to see it run at the lake... I'm not sure they could get it spooled up fast enough on the Shootout course to touch Dave Callans (209) or Dave Scotts (208) LOTO speeds. But it would be neat to see if run never the less...

Wondering who does plan to run the Shootout this year. Haven't seen any threads on it yet. 'Bout time to start one.

Last year after it failed to run at the Sarasota kilo run everyone was calling it the Phenomenot. Also heard a few Spruce Goose references :)

Is Dave Scott and Johnny T running the Nauti 50 Mystic again? if so, dont see anything going 209 to beat him.. that speeds amazing....

They should bite the bullet and send that boat to Gary Stray & AMF rigging. I anyone on this planet can figure that boat out Gary can!

chip romar will be a force this year for sure

if the copeland crew wanted to win the shootout, they could write the check, have mystic, turbine marine, amf, etc. build the boat and blow everyone out of the water. but when you have that much money, and can just write the check so easily, theres really no fun in just paying somebody else to do it for you. also this boat is for the old man, so there is some in house sentinment about doing it themselves.

I hope this boat turns out and makes it. Unfortuntely, I won't be there to watch if it does. 209 is a tough speed to beat. It will probably happen someday, just not sure who or when. Definitely not gonna be me!!

I can't wait to see how Chip's 388 performs this year. It's going to be interesting to see if he can match, or pass the 186 pass from last year, that was amazing....

Dave has said he wasn't running this year. I really hope he does, that mystic is awesome.

Where did you hear this? Why would he not run? It would be a bummer if he decided not to run.

My son who is now 7, and has been to the Shootout the past 5 years told me last weekend. "Dad I really hope that blue and silver Nauti Marine boat is running again this year at the shootout...I can't wait to see it go 200 again!"

Come on Dave you can't let a 7yr old down!!!
