Business Must Be Good!!!!

In the past couple of weeks I have contacted 2 different dealers to inquire about boats they have in stock and neither one of them gave me a reply. I contacted them through emails off their website,One did acknowledged by automated reply that they received my message but never another word from them. They other just never replied.

Once again I think that the Marine Industry is it's OWN WORST ENEMY!!!!

wrinkleface 08-03-2011 08:28 AM

I contacted a dealer a bit ago, no return call!!:bsflag:

ActiveFun 08-03-2011 08:44 AM

That is just incredible.

ROADHOG 08-03-2011 08:47 AM

Your right Wrink, we have talked about this for year's and somethings never seem to change.

POWERPLAY J 08-03-2011 08:49 AM

I agree, when I was searching the same happened to me:bsflag: Tells you something about them, I'm glad it happened because I ended up buying a 32 Sunsation and let me tell you the customer service at Sunsation is first class:drink:From a phone call to a simple e-mail, they always replied. Thanks Joe and crew at Sunsation Boats:Score-101010:

I sent two emails this week to dealers that have boats in the classifieds on this site. No response.

I'm trying to get quotes on a hatch and contacted two very reputable companies, no replys....

I thought you already bought a new boat? Why call a dealer? Were you trying to get a T-shirt or something? :evilb:

In all seriousness, times are tight, and companies still surviving are running skeleton staffs. Often, a 1 or 2 man show is concentrated upon getting product out the door to get money IN the door, and will return emails and phone calls when they are dead tired and can't lift another finger, in the evening, or whenever they can get a spare moment.

Make yourself available and have a little patience.

Personally, I like email vs. phone because I can and do reply at any hour; of which I often do. My main gig is with a worldwide company with 20K people, and I'll often get in a zone and work through the night; some of which includes my best work.

I'm betting that combined with tight credit. Then add in the short staffs as Sydwayz stated and you have some frustrated employees. That would be my guess.

No. You guys are GREAT. I was truly satisfied with my purchase from you guys. I also contacted 2 different businesses. 1. A notable offshore dealer in KY. 2. A brokage service in Cape Coral. No responses yet, but its kinda late, I love my new to me SKATER.

SS930 08-03-2011 11:51 AM

I was seriously shopping for almost six months this last time around with cash in hand. You wouldn't believe how few people return emails or calls, never mind in a timely manor.

JayFan 08-03-2011 11:56 AM

FWIW. I've had VERY good quick responses with Pier 57 and Shogren anytime I was looking at boat of theirs. The rest of them blow IMO.

I know the feeling... paid 2/3rds of the price of a new Sonic in October, told I would have an April deliver date... in April thought about calling it a day but later agreed to continue with the build.. paid the balance in May as I expected a May delivery.. it is August still not boat... times are better than we all thought...

I contacted a dealer that had a used boat on OSO. Got no responce. About a year earlier I had contaced the owner that had the boat. I dug up his email address and emailed him if boat was still for sale & told him I had not heard from dealer in over a week. Guy told me yes and said he would deal with me on the sale. Over next 2 weeks looked at and bought boat. Two weeks lafter that I get email from dealer saying the yes boat was still for sale and wanted to know if I wanted to see it. I forwared the email on to the person I had bought the boat from.

On a POSTIVE note, I called Performance boat brokerage this week to inquiry about a boat that I was interested in. I talked to Brett, asked him to tell me about the boat. He was what I felt extremely honest in describing all the boats imprefections, without me asking or prying for them. I felt he honestly represented the boat's true condition and did not try to hide stuff other dealers would! Brett knew quite a bit of history aobut the boat and was happy to share it. When I get closer to pulling the trigger I plan on giving them a call again!

That's great. I normally don't advocate under-cutting a broker but in this case, that's awesome. Fvck 'em if it takes 2 weeks to a month to return calls. They deserve to fail if it takes them that long. I don't care what the excuse is, I don't want to hear it. 1 to 2 business days and I walk away.

sent 2 emails today we shal see what comes of them.. not chasing anyone down. dont need a new boat that bad!

I keep leaving messages and emails over the last 3 weeks at Lake Wide in the Ozarks but nothing! I don’t know are the still open. The 32 Black Thunder Im interested in has been listed for a long time. If it wasn’t such an oddball boat I wouldn’t keep trying.

Are these guys still open or just not give a crud?

Not to make excuses for them, but I suspect that may be some of the reason for the lack of responses. I cannot imagine how many people they must talk to everyday that just want to talk boats, not buy boats. They make a living by selling, not just talking. I typically do as much research on forums like this, and don't even talk to a dealer or even a private owner until I am "ready to pull the trigger", and at that point, I let them know exactly that.

I know this may not be a popular opinion, but I suspect that it is pretty close to being accurate.

Interceptor 08-03-2011 04:20 PM

It's not just the boat industry. I went through a similar situation trying to buy a car recently. After having 5 or 6 dealers either outright lie to me or never return calls I got with the manufacturer and they located the exact car and model we wanted at a dealer in Chicago that then sold me the car.

So what normally happens when the owner has the boat on consignment with a dealer but sells the boat himself? Does the dealer get paid expenses?

My buddy is a boat broker. It all depends on what's in the contract. I've listed houses before and if I found the buyer the contract with realtor was void.
