I don't remember it being black but Jim did have a shadow cat many years ago(late 80's?) that he took out to the "Lucky Las Vegas Regatta" and dusted off all the big guns on the west coast .... was on the cover of Powerboat Magazine....

Also, thought i saw a quote from Blume, saying the 48 MTIs may have boosted their 1350s to 1700s for the shootout...
not sure if I read that correctly...
