I just saw on TV that the average size of a hurricane is approx 240-260 miles wide. Irene is over 400 as of now. I am not looking forward to this. I keep praying that it's just typical media hype, but it doesn't look good.

According to the forecast of Mr. Jack Beven, Hurricane Center Miami, the path of the storm can shift 160 km or even still change. The terminology that the hurricane is expected to reach the east coast is not really true, that is only one of the forecasts. It seems to me that the hurricane doesnt tend to reach the continent, the damages till now have been only on islands and the hurricane doesnt make a dífference between islands and the surface of the ocean. As it is so huge and gets the energy from the warm water of the Atlantic the large size of I. could mean that it stays on the ocean, but this is also only a forecast. Right now I wouldnt want to be evacuated before next night.

You guys take care up there. Biy plenty of bottled water, and first aid kits. Get gas for your generators, you will be needing them.

It's not media hype, this one's gonna at least have the power out for you guys for a long time.

Stock up on BEER.

Tim,
Having lived in Peurto Rico for a few years, I have been thru a few hurricanes, they need to be taken quite seriously. YOUR FAMILY should be the priorty. The news stations will give us news coverage. Make sure you and your family are safe and protect your belongings. you may lose power for days, no water etc. and in some cases it could be a matter of life and death.

Stocked up on several gallons of water last night. Looking to maybe even freeze a few containers for dual purpose.

I have plastic bins ready to go to pack any important papers such as the house deed ect. Truck is filled with fuel and if needed I have an inverter for a small bit of power if needed . Greta for keeping the laptop up and running. If it looks to be too much too ride out, I will pack everything in the truck. All hard drives and equipment into the bins and load the truck with the wife and kids. The Go Pro can record it all as we roll out and head west....
