Default I-Pad's in boats?

What is the purpose of having your I-Pad mounted to/in your dash? Are you using some sort of mapping technology in it or is there a way to interface it with the Merc motors for a bigger screen that the smart craft or...?

If you look there is a thread on this a little while ago. I think Speedy started it. They also talked about water proof jackets and holders.

MIT has a really neat docking station they are using. I am not sure who the vendor is.

MTI designed and had theirs fabricated to fit their dash. It is a great idea, you can play your music from it, play videos and put the videos on other monitors or GPSs, you can use the built in GPS of the Ipad, Radar on Ipad. All of the things we love about the Ipad and now right there for you. Plus it is nice to have redudant pieces, like the GPS function.

Navionics, I use it on my Droid and they have it for apple products. There are a couple threads on here about it.
