other sit down v-bottoms

With my skater dreams crushed by the current insurance market, I have moved my sites to a sit down v-bottom. I really like the 38 donzi zrc. The fountains are cool, but they only have 4 seats. Does anybody else make a sit down v-bottom.

note: I am not buying a new boat, I would like a several year old used one.

OL40SVX 08-31-2011 07:01 PM

Outerlimits GTX for a used boat is the way to go.

endeavor1 08-31-2011 07:19 PM

Cig Gladiator.....

thirdchildhood 08-31-2011 07:38 PM

Donzi 38 ZR Comp I am pretty sure is a sit down boat.

Here's a few Skater sit down Vee's. One new One used for sale.

38 Donzi Competition hands down!
Best sit down V out there. It rides like a Cadillac, handles like it is on rails and has proven its worth with multiple National and World Championships.
Before I bought mine, I test rode the Donzi, Gladiator, and an Outerlimits 37 GTX. The Donzi was the clear choice for me. I like the older Outerlimits GTXs but finding a good one at a good price is tough. I love the look of the Gladiators but wasn't sold on it and the back seat is a rough ride with very little freeboard. The Fountain as you said has a very tight cockpit.
Now if you have deeper pockets, the newer epoxy Outerlimits, Statement and Skater V's are really nice.
Will an epoxy boat outrun the Zr hp for hp......yes.
Will an epoxy boat cost twice as much ... yes.
Personally, I am not a fan of the ride in an epoxy boat. Every ripple and bump can be felt because the boat is so rigid.
In the end it will be up to you but I HIGHLY recommend getting in a few different ones to see what is best for you!

Phantom

panich53 09-01-2011 12:43 PM

34' Phantom 6 man sit down! :)

A.O. Razor 09-01-2011 12:52 PM

One thing I like about the Fountain Lightnings, are that they are a bit of both.

If the guy's not buying a Skater because of insurance prices, I don't think he can swing a new Outerlimits or Statement.
I could be wrong, Just sayin'.

What are you going to use the boat for, and where do you boat ect.? Budget, speed goal, within what years do you want it?

36Envision 09-01-2011 12:52 PM

I wouldn't pull the trigger on anything until you check out the staggered 525 EFI cigarette gladiator listed with Brett @ Performance Boat Brokerage. It is owned by OSO member redbud from my understanding and has been well cared for, very beautiful boat and at an attractive price point for what you would get. Never ridden in the specific boat but been in a side by side gladiator and it handled very well as a sit down V. Good luck.

GRH 09-01-2011 01:45 PM

SUPERBOAT Y2K..... most comfortable and affordable sit down offshore boat you'll ever ride in.....

boating37 09-01-2011 02:26 PM

If you don't care about having twins, then go for the Superboat, bad azz boat, and more room in the cockpit then all of these boats talked about.
Loved mine, great fun boat.

Loved mine, great fun boat.

They can be built with twin SBCs. I'm assuming since he mentioned the 38ZR that he was looking for a longer boat.

BONDO10 09-01-2011 03:12 PM

O/L GTX. The red one that was in the classified, with Ilmore's is bad a$$.

boating37 09-01-2011 10:18 PM

If you ha e never been in a epoxy boat, take one for a ride first.
Not for everyone, I didn't like it, like said before you here every little
ripple of water hitting the boat.

To reach the same speed, might not the epoxy boat with the lesser hp/drive cost less?

Heard from someone who sea-trialed it that it was not an impressive boat to say the least.

You just have to know how to drive them. Power for Power its still faster than a Gladiator Paul and its a much larger boat!!:D:D

Statements are definitely not my price range. YET!

Thanks for the other leads. I really like the idea of the sit down, better for going fast, lighter. I already have a place at the lake why do I need drive around with another one in the front of my boat.

I just looked at that. Good looking and priced to move. I will have to check that one out. Leaves some money for gas and repairs at the price.

Thanks again guys for all the great info.

The donzi zrc is what I am leaning towards. My best friend has an 08 38 zr with stagered 525s. I have a lot of time in that boat both at LO and offshore in TX. He runs the boat fairly hard and that thing has not wimpered even once. I know the zrc will be a little different, but the quality will be the same.

It seems I have a few other boats to look at too now. I take my time with decisions and do a lot of research. I keep my boats for a long time so I want to make sure to get the exact right boat for me. I use my boat mostly at LO so I want something at least 36-38' long and up to 42' long. MY boat now is 33', have to go bigger. I want to start doing poker runs in TX and in FL with the boat. I would love to find the perfect boat for just over $100k, but the budget will go up to low to mid $200k to get what I want . Speed would need to be in the mid 90's minimum, breaking 100 would be even better. Fuel injected is a must. No carbs for me.

johnlomant 09-02-2011 08:52 AM

I will sell mine for similar price with half the hours and more power. My boat has 111 hours many options that are one of a kind. Just research it before you buy.

What does a cigarette gladiator with 525's run?

I am not debating speed. We both know that the 39 was not one of their best hulls. I was actually considering this boat at one time, but was advised against it from several people. Anyhow, the Glad may be smaller, but build ,quality-wise, it blows that GTX away.

P.S. Where is the new 36 you guys have coming out? Would love to see it!

Build quality being hull construction the Gladiator being a glass boat does not blow away an Epoxy boat. Period. My Gladiator had more stress cracks in it than the Outerlimits ever would. The 36 is still on the back burner.

I don't doubt the hull integrity. That's not what I am talkiing about. All of the OL's I have seen from that time period have inferior rigging and fit and finish when compared to Cigarette.

I would argue against that statement STRONGLY. :angry-smiley-038:

So what's the trick to driving them? And what if anything can be done to make them more conventional?

You sit in a 36 gladiator? and a 35 fountain??? Im not trying to be a jerk here..... may seem like a stupid question but if it has bolsters cant you either sit or stand? i have never sat in my little outlaw it has those drop out bolsters... i have never seen a gladiator in person. i just would prefer to stand in any v-hull. it feels good.

chattviper 09-02-2011 12:55 PM

True, and on pleasure days would prefer to stand too. Poker runs and rough water...my sit down is the best!
