Sounds like everyone is ok thankfully.

CigDaze 09-20-2011 06:27 AM

Oh No. I hate seeing things like this. But thankfully, it sounds like all will be okay. Shame about the boat. She's a beauty.
I hope for full recoveries for everyone.
:( :(

The New Jersey State Marine Police station in Atlantic City identified the owner of the boat as Robert Gendelman of Pennsylvania. He was a passenger when the accident occurred.
From this quote, I'm led to believe that the owner was not in control at the time, rather someone else was driving.

Quinlan 09-20-2011 06:36 AM

Glad all are OK.

But TOO fast for the capabilities of the Boat? Come on

MrSneakAttack 09-20-2011 06:37 AM

Nothing. It can happen to anyone, in just about any boat, without warning when set-up is not right and experience in not enough. (See Video below for an example)

Most likely, but there's no way any one here now can know for certain.

Speed/improper trim/sharp turn/rogue wave???.....we can conjecture forever, but that wouldn't be proper. No one can say for sure except perhaps the three folks on board. But enough of that, let's just be thankful they're all fine.

That part of Assawomen Bay in Ocean City is very, and I mean very tricky... local knowledge is very helpful from the inlet North!! Hate to see this sort of things.

Glad all are OK, Pat

notda1 09-20-2011 07:36 AM

Post says while making high speed sharp turn according to a witness . I've seen boats with step bottoms spin out in turns at races many times when being pushed hard . Sad to see

WMF 09-20-2011 07:48 AM

same boat? glad everyone is ok!!

Sorry to see that. Glad to hear everyone is going to be ok. Its usually driver error but some step boats you just cant turn hard.

JTeam 09-20-2011 08:03 AM

I was thinking steering failure.

pm203 09-20-2011 09:03 AM

It's always sad to see a situation like this. You really have to be careful who you let drive your boat. Bottom line is that everyone is ok.

SVL-WARLOCK 09-20-2011 09:04 AM

This was our boat. Thankfully everyone is ok. The boat on the other hand did not fair as well. The boat was not traveling at a high rate of speed. The damage shows there isnt much glass damage. The drives are still almost straight. The boat had slowed down to make a slight left turn, it started to slide and the caught and barrel rolled. Estimated speed is around 50. The occupants stated afterwards that there may have been an isssue with the steering. I wil keep everyone posted and thanks for the kind words. Its just glass and cann be replaced where our lives cant.

Panther 09-20-2011 09:46 AM

Sorry to hear about your loss. :(

RT930turbo 09-20-2011 09:56 AM

Sorry to hear about the new boat. You all are very fortunate everyone is alright.

POWERPLAY J 09-20-2011 10:00 AM

Happy to hear the crew is ok.

CrownHawg 09-20-2011 10:09 AM

Glad to hear all will be ok. I can tell you though, as a new "stepped hull" boater, I am VERY nervous about making turns in this boat at speed. I had a 23ft CL with a moderate deadrise with no steps and could turn that thing on a dime at a good speed. After seeing and reading how different all these stepped hulls handle, I won't attempt to turn much at all at speed. Not saying that this was the cause of the accident at all, just that me being a "newbie" to this boat, I just don't risk it. Like someone said, "anything CAN and WILL happen". Just be careful out there folks.

tomtbone1993 09-20-2011 10:11 AM

glad everyone is OK

J.B. Marshall 09-20-2011 10:19 AM

ROTAX454 09-20-2011 12:37 PM

Glad to hear that no one on board has any serious injuries.

Starting a new thread using this thread as an example regarding Federal Marine Salvage Laws.

TOASTY 09-20-2011 12:42 PM

This is in my back yard. Glad to hear all aboard will be ok. Please be safe, and if you can let us know the outcome of the suggested steering issue please keep us informed. All the best

C

after reading the artical i was wondering if it was going to be salvaged!!! or does he have a time period to pay the fees to get his boat back?

SVL-WARLOCK 09-20-2011 01:11 PM

The boat should be at our shop soon. I know my tech said he thinks motors are in bad shape. We took off the blowers. Motors only crank half turn. Must have ingested water on the limiters. Plus the intakes were filled with mud and sand. Once we get the boat back we can look into steering. Drives are only turned a little bit. Jibes with the drivers story.

jln 09-20-2011 02:17 PM

Glad no one was hurt, Bob is a great guy. hope things work out for the boat. but again nothing is more important than the fact no one got hurt, and thats why there called accidents freak things just happen .

THEJOKER 09-20-2011 02:40 PM

Dang hate to see this!

CigaretteSam 09-20-2011 04:20 PM

Sorry to hear about the boat! Were you onboard at the time?

There is a member on here,I will let him tell the story if he wants too...Any way he totaled his boat two years ago because of a hose failure.Very experienced operator and was not even going that fast.

Glad everyone is ok.

wananewboat 09-20-2011 06:16 PM

Wouldn't the boat be totaled and the insurance company just keep it? Unless you buy the boat back, how could it come back to your shop? Just asking.

Or maybe they are just saying someone else was driving, or maybe not

THEJOKER 09-20-2011 08:03 PM

Andy I thought you owned the boat?
