Scratch that. I used a check point that looks like they were still in the river prior to their start this morning.
This time I started at check point #12 and went to #50 which = 258.49 mls in 6 hrs 49 mins and = 37.90 mph's.
Existing record is 22 hrs and 23 mins @ 34.85 mph average.
Looks like the may have her on cruise @ 40 and may be where they have their best fuel economy figured.
They posted this on another thread I was following. (32 knots would be about 35 mph)
"While we have been waiting, we have continued to make adjustments to the boat and make sure she is as ready as she can be. Right now, our best cruise is at 32kts getting 2.08 MPG. We changed the gear ratio in the lower units to 1.81 to allow the engines to run lightly loaded at our desired cruise speed. It slowed our overall top speed down to 53mph, but it will help ensure we don't overwork the engines during the long run with an extremely heavy load of equipment and fuel."

Chris appears to be in good company for this record! I was hesitant in writing the Insurance Exposure during the run, but after considering the factors, especially weather, I was confident and expect a safe & hopefully a new record.
Regards to Todd & Big John from back in our days of racing, and of course Chris Fertig!

Thanks, I was wondering about that. Hope the conditions hold steady for them, but that is a lot of open ocean to cover.
Also, kinda curious about the game plan, if there is one, for running after dark. (take it as it comes?) The mental stress surely will go up once the sun goes down.

WOW !!!
NICK was not kidding when he said they were just going to nail it and fly out of the harbor !!!
We had a huge gamble today with getting the aerial coverage.
Unfortunately all was against us but I tried the very best I could.
Having a slight fog delay, air traffic delay and needing to stay out of the Obama restricted air space just being a bit behind there was just no catching them.
Before we could get their position we lost communications. I tried from California to the East Coast to find someone to relay their position to me. By that time they were already off of Barnegat Light while I was in Brick. Just 10 to 15 miles north. The problem was that by that time they were so far offshore I decided to turn back and call it a day.
Fortunately I planned ahead for the night before photo shoot. I also reshot the boat this morning with the crew and the Coast Guard that was to escort them out of the Harbor.
Pics to come soon !

Looks like something slowed them down for a little while around 5:30 ET and they've been slowly getting back up to speed. They appear to be holding at roughly 17-18 mph average on the last two checkpoints (roughly 7 miles) if my calculations are correct. Hope everything is ok!

yea, they slowed and look at the course changes like they were zig zagging? They have fuel bladders, correct? Maybe they slowed and wallowed while they transfered fuel or something?
