It looks like their average speed is dropping a touch.
LAT LON Time Elapsed Time ET (minutes) Distance (mi) Avg Speed (mph)
39.75211 -73.02579 11:40 AM 1:30 90.00 58.607 39.07
39.54665 -72.77524 12:11 PM 2:00 120.00 78.11 39.06
39.21072 -72.35715 1:00 PM 2:49 169.00 110.29 39.16
39.00697 -72.11465 1:30 PM 3:19 199.00 129.43 39.02
38.75546 -71.81564 2:10 PM 3:59 239.00 153.11 38.44
37.43936 -70.3092 6:14 PM 8:03 483.00 275.52 34.23
I realize my speed calculations may be off a bit, as I keep calculating the distance from one of the early waypoints (40.37473 -73.77845), so my calculations would be for a straight line, which isn't what they're doing. IT might still do the trick for the whole trip though.
34.23 mph is still pretty good.

Looks like they're about halfway there, give or take from the satellite map. Best of luck for the rest of the trip
Must be a little different then the ride I had to Bermuda

Some quick numbers. My SPOT data is on CST instead of ET. AVG SPD is between data points. They dropped speed for a while, but appear to be building back up. Go get 'em, guys!

Yes, they have bladders.
They also predicted at about this time is when they would hit 3 to 4 ft seas.
Supposed to calm back down once again after they get through it...

I didn't make the connection that it's YOUR Mike on board. They've certainly got the right guys on the boat.
I was really just thinking out loud about the night running- I've done a fair amount of it but never out in the open ocean. I can't help but think that your senses are automatically on a higher level of awareness because of reduced visibility. Even with that air-cushion cockpit the fatigue factor has got to add up as the hours go by. I remember how I felt after the dash to Cancun... and that was only 8 1/2 hours in daylight on a 50ft boat. Hard to imagine how they will feel after this trip.
Fingers crossed, hammer down!

This is what the seas looked like for them at 11:21 am this morning 20+ miles offshore.
It doesn't get much better than that !

This is the Varrazano Bridge they came under this morning. They left in some heavy fog and low clouds early on but it got better as they went out to sea.
