the 28 scorpion is an awsome boat,i had one back in 02 and i put over 300 hrs on it and no real issues at all.the only thing is that the boat is not real deep, and it could get a little squirrley @ any speeds over 75 in some chop w/a side wind.but overall the boat was awesome and fairly forgiving, after some seattime.you will not go wrong with a 28 zx.but make sure you get a survey done and PERSONALLY DRIVE THE BOAT TO MAKE SURE ITS RIGHT FOR YOU.I used to be a donzi dealer, and i loved the 28 zx but it took me three years to sell mine, and over 20 demos,i had that boat sold over the phone about 10 times, and people just wouldnt close and the main reason was the cocpit and cuddy area was too small.with that bieng said that 28 sold me a ton of 33 zx[about 8] just beacuse it was bigger and had comparable performance.the quality and fit and finish was great for a production boat.graphis were very well done, and they always used top quality hard ware i hope this helps

Why do you need a step? If it goes over 75 it goes over 75? Most of the straight hulls will ride better on rough days too, although the sit down NY area race style boats all have good reps for riding nice.
I personally wouldn't want any bigger than my 28 in a single. It's like a kite in the wind when docking w/ no way to control it without twins. If you you want a big stand up boat in a single, go w/ a 28 AT. Other options I liked 28 PP (obviously my first choice) or a Pantera 28. They'll take more power than a step hull boat but they will run great in the rough. I looked at Donzi's 28 ZX's as well, but they are smaller and they all were overpriced on the market when I was looking. |

A 28 Pantera would be a good choice if you HAVE to have a stand up boat single. They ride great in the rough but take a bunch of power to make them fast.
700hp will push them low 80's and will push that 29' Kryptonite mid 90's. |
I have a 1998 32 velocity with 600hp 525scs brand new cmi. I seen 92 with more to go . I would need 60,000 but the motors only have 125 hours the hull 225hours . I been thinking about up grading.

Pm me your email if I have time I'll send you a couple after I go out this weekend. If you don't want it I don't care I would only sell it to buy a bigger velocity . This is my second velocity . If you can drive their bad a$$' boats. I've drove a couple different brands and wouldn't
change unless I try a cat. Ps not many boats have beat me and I race people all the time. Two people one was a cat. |
Watch still crazy on the velocity forum

No steps though (unless they've updated the new ones)....but w/ some power they'll get going. They are big 28's though, tons of freeboard. |
28 Powerquest silencer. Single step, big cockpit, nice cabin, lots of storage.
I looked at Donzi but did not care for the cockpit. Seemed to lack storage also. I would part with mine within your price range and you would still have plenty of gas money left. 75 mph, closed cooling, turn key with about 175 hours. |
Powerquest makes a very good boat, good in the rough, not going to be real fast like the Krypto and since you're not into MCOBs, I would take a hard look at them. The 300 Revenge is a monster of a boat, but that's going to a little out of your price range. Take a hard look at the 29.

496HO 3.5lb boost pro charger. |
I almost purchased a 28 Eagle MCOB, they are a nice boat, fast too, just not too many around, I would take a hard look at that one.

There is also one here in cypress, right around the corner from me, pictures suck... http://houston.craigslist.org/boa/2614114862.html I'm guessing thats a 502 Mag, he calls it a epi ? I left a message yesterday, no response yet. I would like to see it in person. |

The one in the PBL has a lot more going for it and the list is even cheaper, that's a pretty hefty price for an 01 with a basic package.

The boat in cypress won't work to many hours, negleted paint/gel coat, and seller not willing to budge on his price...

How about something like this:
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/20...shore-99947356 When I am ready to make a purchase I will be in a similar position except I want a MCOB. Right now these are at the top of my wish list. |
That's my recommendation ;-)

Bert has some on thw water picts of his rig.
The Lavey 29 is a true 24 degree V and will take big water extremely well. The Eliminator is a nice boat but there are significant differences. It is fast per HP and the hull shape was designed originally by Ron Ehde, but its a shallower V and wont ride as well in big water or chop. Its also loaded with wood in the boat - wood floorboards etc and is not interlined like the lavey- its also not the length they claim it is because they add the bolt on swimstep to the LOA. Good luck on your hunt! Uncle Dave |
The boat has a very "slight" rise, nothing like a Fountain or a Sunny. G-Note, the best advice is to ride in as many of the boats that you are considering. I'll be back in Dallas on the 18th of November, I plan on winterizing my boat that week because I have to be back in the D.C. area by 11/29 and will most likely not be back for a few months. You're not far from Dallas, if you catch me prior to winterizing, c'mon up and I'll take you out. The brand sells itself by the performance of the boat. I was really shocked how well the boat comes alive in the rough, you will be too.

Ok, back on the market...
Nordic heat is out of the question, and so is Eliminator 28 Eagle. Rode in both on lake conroe, peeing blood still:lolhit: Laveycraft is what I want, can't spend $50k or bert4332's boat would be in my storage right now! |

Pantera sounds like the Baja's I'm trying to get away from, no step, no pad, but do good in the rough, and take lots of power to move them.... No thanks

I had a guy out on Sunday who runs a 28 Nordic cuddy, he couldn't believe the difference in the ride. We were doing 68 into a 25mph head wind in about 2ft chop with an occasional 3, he couldn't believe he didn't spill on drop of his full beer. Good Luck |

Thanx for plug G-Note, I had it out all week, ran great, again this time of year, +30mph winds and everyone only wants to ride on my boat. I probably won't have it back in the water until September, going back to Annapolis then out of the country for a while. If things change when I get back, trip up to Dallas and we'll go out for a ride.

Look at the Checkmate 300 Convincor or a ZT28.
24 degree deadrise, pad bottom, notched transom. Ride great in the rough. Will do low 70's with 496 MAG HO and run high 70's-80 with the 525 EFI. I have ridden in them and they are nice and roomy, take the chop great and have nice lines. |

G-note, you may not heard of Mirage boats built in Washington state. They were built rough water in mind for the Pacific Northwest.I have a 25'7 model [ less than a dozen built with twins ] and the 314 in this link is also a rare model ,maybe 6 built . Check it out, little over your budget but who knows how desperate the seller may be. http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1998.../United-States
