You couldn't be more right!! We're selling our country and our future down the river buying all these foreign products. Soon, we won't manufacture anything here.

They sunk it,low freeboard and pushing it in at that angle,No way.
|
It wouldn't cost maybe 10 to 15% more to buy stuff built here. People are cheap. I would gladly spend more if the product was equal. I buy a lot of stuff that is made in Europe. My wifes car is a BMW. Why cant we make a car equal to a BMW for the same $. American cars arn't even close in quality, ride and handling. I buy Grundfos pumps because the Taco brand made in the USA isn't as good of a product.

I guess it would depend on which BMW as the little one (forget the model) is built in South Carolina and shipped to Europe. I was at the Charlston port and there were hundreds of them being loaded on a ship.
you sir are wrong I have a 135 and it was not built here it was built in Germany. You said little bmw that's the smallest one they make so im not sure which model you are referring to. I picked it up in Germany fresh off the line than had it shipped here. What you are seeing is probably a distribution hub for bmw, port hueneme is full of bmw's to because that's where they are delivered and prepped for most dealerships on the west coast... |

There IS a plant here in the us for BMW. I think by little, what he means is the roadster.
They make the roadsters here and the SUV. Not sure of the models, but I was working there on a job once and toured the factory. Very high end place. No wonder they are so expensive. :coolcowboy: |

The BMW X5s SUV is built in Spartenbug/Greer S.C. the older Z3 Roadster were also built there until a few years ago. and and the Mercedes M Class is built in Tuscaloosa Alabama The BMW in S.C. plant is pretty interesting as a large part of the plant is powered from the Methane Gas from the local land fill. The Lear seats are made just up the road and the Michelin Tires are made next door. Designed in Germany but built here. Thank you Jim |
Actually when we recently bought the boat, I made it a quest to purchase American made products for the boat. It wasn't easy, of course, because of all the companies that would rather sell an inferior quality Chinese made product but make enormously more profit. After all, the only reason for Chinese made products on the marketplace is for some ultra greedy company to make higher profits, period.
I'm happy to say that I was able to buy all my dock lines and anchor line made by Custom Cordage in Maine and the anchor from Fortress and the Danforth chain all made in the USA. All fine quality components and at VERY little of a premium in price. In fact, one or 2 pieces were lower in cost than imports. It's rewarding to me to still be able to find US made products and enjoy the improved quality that they represent. |

Exactly, if they added some flotation it would have survived.
|
Like nobody here ever forgot to put in the drain plugs. LOL
|
Can anyone elaborate with your expertise on a adding flotation to a boat after it has already been totally built.
Foam, styrofoam and believe it or not I have seen ping pong balls added afterwards to a boat trying to add flotation but I am not sure how much if any added to it. IMO they also might have tried this to quit down wave / water noise while the boat was at rest & underway. I know adding foam in all voids after the fact might not be the thing to do because how it expands having the potential breaking structures whithin. Maybe self leveling foam is that a better idea. Thank you for your time. |

I traveled for work to China once about every 6 weeks for 10 years ending in 2009.
If we do NOT wake up they are going to bury us, you should see their government planing. The chinese have a different view on time. They look out 20-30-100 years, nothing to them. The keep their currency low, they subliment industries so that no one can compete with them, they are training a unbelievable amount of engineers. Can't tell you how many times I was on a plane with the director or VP of engineering of a US company that said he was going over to see his "staff". The company I worked for set a goal and met it to outsource 50% of their engineering to China, India, and the Ucrane. Remember when we used to laugh at those cheap little car and motorcycles from Japan? |
i think the performance boating industry might be safe at least for a little while, apparantly we have more manufacturers than the market will support

And some is already moving to India because its even cheaper than China,I don't know where this is going to end up.But the jobs are already gone. |

I know what you are saying but they are learning fast.
I seen it, the first system I sold was in a Buick, the first builds were horrible, the next car,,,,,,,,, much better. They have the ability to put large numbers of engineers on any problem. We should not just discount them. That is what I am Trying to say. BTW You are spot on about the environment issue, they didn't care. |
"the main source is that the Chinese don't have the EPA laws that we have and will pollute the earth till no end to make a profit."
this is true. their idea of enviromentally friendly is "dump it way out there so I cant smell it" unfortunately here in the US the EPA is way too far to the extreme and getting worse. there is a company here in Gainsville, GA that processes soy beans, etc into oils and other stuff, they have 5 people full time who do nothing but make sure they are in compliance with all the regulations that are heaped on them. that is 200 hours a week for nothing but government BS. yes I do agree that some regulations are needed and that we need to all be resposible for protecting mother earth but nothing about the EPA or other gov. regs is about that, it is all about what they can do to put you in a bind and then fine you for not keeping up. one example is water based paints. sounds resonable except that the only component that is water base is the base coat. the one part that does not contain isocianates, the ingrediant that causes health issues. so they made us 'safer' by changing out the safest part but then fine the crap out of us if we dont have the proper paint guns, paint booth and filters for water base paints that cost us thousands of dollars just for a little label saying we comply. sorry for the rant but as you can see I have spent way too much of my life dealing with an increasingly overbearing government here in the "land of the free". |
The Chinese have been building blowboats for a few years now......

Theres a contractor I belive hes in utah???
Building a 100% u.s. Product house. Everything, nails, pvc, hardware, tubs, sinks, the whole thing. cant remember exact stats, but I think he was projecting completed const to increase price by 5%? And that if all g.c. `s followed his 100% u.s. Building it would add almost 250,000 jobs to u.s. Work force. He had to have the foundation anchor bolts custom machined because the only ones available are chinese. Not even a u.s mfg. option currently avail. 5% more on a home can be a big $$$ but youll have peace of mind having quality ( hopefully ) products. MD:flag::flag::flag: |
Wake UP Amercia!!
Lets face it, in the good old USA we got fat, dumb and lazy with a little ignorance thrown in! Now we are paying the price of all the lost jobs, net incomes falling for the majority of our work force! We stopped mining, drilling, fabricating, forming, developing, building, designing, engineerings and manufacturing our own products and needs! We let politicians, beauracrats, enviromentalists, greed in the board room and NIMBYs regulate, legislate and brain wash us into believing that we can have all our needs taken care of by the rest of the world.
We could save so much money by buying all these items, products and services from overseas and enhance the value of the USA by supporting those who have conned us into believing this in our best interest! BullSh*t !! A Nation that only consumes and does not produce or export its strengths and expertise is a dying whale on a beach! Wake up quick America! Educate, Innovate, Use and Sell our Internal Assets and Support our Great Economy or resolve yourself to become a Third World country!! Hope there are a lot of others who can clear their heads and think now about how important this problem is and take action to right our Ship! Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |
That's what happens when you only steal the boat design plans, not the factory and launching plans.

I think we will see some changes in what is built in China
The New Labor laws in China are going to make them less competitive then they were before. The turn over labor rate there is almost 30% after the Chinese New Year Holiday, at least that how it is in the electronic field ther. Thank you |
