Warranty Issues New Duramax Diesel

I have been installing quite a few Western Diesel chips on the new Duramax's. THey have all been holding up great ! (knock on wood)
The WD chip has an optional switch that controls power on 2 settings or can be completly shut off while driving . (Switch on the fly ) . I have herd of several problems with the Duramax package including rear end , trans , and some engine problems . And it turns out they are all STOCK trucks . NOT chipped . It seems to me that this may or may not be chip related problems . Seems the trucks don't have all the bugs out yet . OR, maybe some chips ned the bugs worked out . I talked to the main office of western diesel and asked them about this . They have had NO reported failures on trucks with their products .

Hey Mrgoodwrench, at 30,000 psi they better pull those motors down and check for some holes in the pistons or cylinder walls !

The new Dodge 3500 still will have the Cummins (305hp, 555ft/lbs) and supposedly mid year will have a new transmission.
Yes there will be a club cab version but it's not quite a full rear seat like the Ford and Gm.
You think the Ford is quieter than the Dmax ?!?!?!? There must have been a Dodge idling nearby when you thought you heard the Dmax !!! That thing sounds like a car running ! My buddies PSD isn't much quieter than my Cummins ! And it is actually louder in the truck than my Cummins on the freeway.

The Durmax is the most quiet outside the truck, but not from the inside in my and my wifes opinion.
Outside: #1 Durmax #2 Ford #3 Dodge
Inside: #1 Ford #2 Durmax/Dodge
I also have a friend with a F-350 srw that has a very loud engine.
Just my opinion based on out test drives. Personally I like the sound. I own a 1975 Ford 5000 diesel tractor that sounds about the same as the powerstroke. The Dodge is louder than my tractor, and my neighbor has proven it.

Wow Kaama, THats a loaded quesion ! What do you want me to get shot ? I have been involved in diesel performance for about 16 years . I have used many name brands .And all of the big name brands . I now sell and am proud of Western Diesel products . IN my opinion , the original big names went to hell ! THere are tons of no name brands jumping on the diesel wagon and alot of them are very quesionable ! Alot of companies that have been making gas motor chips for years saw an IN , and went for it . Some are "OK" ,,, Some are not .( I"m sure you see the hypertech problems for one example) . I like to stick with companies that specialize in what they do . Diesel people that make diesel products . There are only a hand full at most ,of companies that only do diesels .
Most people buy a chip and tell everyone it's great and it's the best . That may be because they have never had any other ones to see any difference . THere are big differences beleive me .
And I'll just leave it at that ..........

OH , on a 2002 Ford ,you are right . They are extremely quiet inside ! The hole under side of the floor and the entire fire wall has masive amounts of sound insulation . In MY 2002 ,you couldn't tell it was a diesel till about 60 mph or more .NO LIE ! Now with the tri power chip ,ram air and big exhaust , you can tell a LITTLE more .

You are right the G.M. wheels do suck, but the long wheelbase causes the outside edge of the front tires to wear bad. I have had three crew cab duallys and the only way so save the tires is rotate them every 5k miles. I usually do it every other oil change. If you the good wheels you have to take them off. I thought about Alcoa's but just couldn't do it.

(It is a multiple use device that monitors your motor without the need for anything else.)

Joe, I know you are a western diesel dealer, but have you ever tried one of these? It is a lot slicker than three switches.
Hey Mr. Goodwrench. Iscrewzu though it may be, I have heard that they get pulled down by the Volvo/White Div. to see what the failure was.......
I have a very good friend that is the master of the Duramax at a local dealership. He was all into them and rubbing my face in how fast they were cause he knows I like Cummins and Mitsu, small Cats etc..
After he brought about the fourth one home for tranny issues.....he does not boast. In fact, he said he would not buy one till they worked out the bugs.
I would say to go with the PS if in doubt. At least you know what to expect.
(If you think that the Ford is quiter than the Duramax....you had a very unusual experience. The GM is by far the quietest engine.)
Also, The newer Powerstrokes certainly are not far off the Cummins in noise when you are outside the truck. Still quieter, but not that far off.
Goob: every other oil change?? You need to learn about Amsoil and thier filters, man!! Regardless of which motor you have, Amsoil makes it run better, faster and longer!
The stuff is for real. I did not belive it till my wife ran an Escort wagon (dont give me ****....she WANTED the car) we bought brand new in 96 with the stuff. 3 oil changes in 100,000 miles yes...three. If you want to see pics of the teardown, send me a message. I could not belive what I saw. Cross hatch still there...zero ridge, no deposits, no bearing wear....etc etc.
Slapped it back together and still running strong on its fourth oil change.
My uncle has 94 Dodge/Cummins with 360,000 on the SAME OIL! If you would like to see the analysis of the oil through its life..I can arrange that too. The stuff really does work!
Call chip up there. He will hook you up.
