I agree with 78CIG24, by changing a few logos, there comes an identity crisis to many, particularly without the DA history in the case of Outerlimits.
OL makes a quality product, from all that I've heard, but this is similar to Chevrolet winning the Nascar season then bringing out a "Henry Ford" tribute edition Chevrolet to honor the man who started it all. Would that make any sense or would it ever happen? I'm thinking no. |

No one on either side has put down the quality of Mike's product, in fact just the opposite. OL should take it as a compliment that people around here think enough about them and the path they take that they actually voice their opinion. This is just the reaction you get when you are on the top of the list of boatbuilders. If no one reacted they wouldnt give a shiit. |

ed And how long did he wait to compete with them after he sold it ? If in fact thats what happened. It was a Cary secretly built under the name of a friend's Florida boatbuilding company to Aronow specifications since he was under a no compete restriction to the purchaser of one of his former companies. Always the innovator,Aronow named it THE CIGARETTE after a fast 50' commuter hull built for New Yorker Gorden Hammersley by the legendary Gar Wood. How many times did that happen ? |

Pardon me but when did this "race" around Long Island suddenly become the standardbearer for offshore excellence. Seems from what Ive read there hasnt been many run over the past 50 years, some of the winners would hardly be considered the elite of offshore and last years winner ran a 30Sonic with Alpha's How about Ol spend twenty years winning offshore races before they claim vbottom superiority and throw a 1 on the side. When is Soncis Alpha Edition Long Island Boat coming out? NK PS No disrespect to this years winner or last. Congrats I was connecting the dots of what's gone down recently horba , bill and charles talked to mike a to use dons name for their l.i. race Mike a was at this race An o.l. Broke the record for the race somewhere along the way someone said it would be a good idea to make a tribute boat to don. Charles, dan, o.l. And mike a. came up with this cadillac cimeron of a tribute paint scheme to don. I was merely suggesting it would be a lot cooler to make a purpose built boat boasting larger tanks for the don A long island marathon. This is no disrespect to any of the parties involved, im just trying to connect the dots of this concept. And yes d I know what they say when you assume something. None of this is fact , all assumption |

http://www.carfolio.com/images/dbima...illac-logo.png But technically it is more like the Magnum Marine Logo... which I have been hesitant to mention since "Post #1"...we don't need those Magnum guys in here TOO.. LOL http://www.magnummarine.com/images/logo.png |

Ha. Cadillac cimeron was the best odd ball flop I could think of.
again if any of my connect the dot assumptions are way off base or out of line, someone please feel free to call me out or correct me. Sadly though, most people that buy "Limited Editions", replicas, etc, are posers and would never use or need the extra fuel capacity. People that would use that capacity typically want to make their own "history". Oh, no offense meant to anyone about the Poser comment, just my observation over many decades. Dave |
All this cross branding is getting silly. I can understand some of the old Don Johnson Edition KV Scarabs, Reggie Special Signature Edition Fountain's, Donzi Aronow Edition 22's – (licensing issues prod. cut at 6) and even the Cigarette Playboy Edition but some of these editions are just whoring. Even the new Cigarette Ducati Special Edition and the Cigarette AMG Special Edition just seem more like OCC reality tv marketing.
Starting to become a re-run of Shelby doing Pit Stop Deodarant, Chili Fixins , Shelby Donzi's, etc.. and even a Shelby Edition Dodge Omni. I thought the bottom for boat companies was when Donzi made a Special Edition Les Paul Guitar … If Michael Aronow had direct input and design involvement with the original 43OL build from the start it would be easier to buy in but just giving the okay on paint and interior sketches seems like a total money grab and a disrespectful move on the DA name and legacy. |

They're trying to stimulate sales. If you follow this industry, and I'm sure you do, you know that new performance-boat sales are not strong these days. And guys (and gals), I don't think I'm revealing any profound marketing/packaging secrets when I say what makes most "special editions" of most products "special" is their cosmetics. Last, I love these discussions and I wouldn't do a thing to change them. But I do wonder why they go so quickly from passionate to personal. Just sayin'. |

At least when Porsche did their "Porsche Design" boat stuff years ago with Kineo...they used Porsche engines in them.... http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/wp-...Boat-Motor.jpg Along with some unique Porsche Design features most will never notice. The flush flip out Swim Platform on this was brilliant. http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/wp-...-Boat-Tail.jpg

For once I disagree with Matt Trulio. I think this is one of the best posts on this thread. Donzi flooded it's line-up with special editions that hold no special value because there are so many of them and the max power offered in the Shelby 22 Classic was a stock 496 HO. The only performance enhancements were an air scoop and raised "X". Also, TTBOMK, the Donzi guitar wasn't even a "real" Les Paul but was the imported version.
