Rick G ... "I think it makes absolutely no sense for a builder to offer a boat in honor of another builder especially given the fact that if that builder were still alive he would be a fierce competetor and given his track record still winning." To me thats kinda the point of all this.... he would still be a fierce competitor and given his track record, he would be on his 20th company by now ... and all of them would be wonderful but since he's not still around, they are honoring his vision of continuing to advance the product. Don Aronow, according to those who knew him, was unlike any other.... that is why he is getting the tribute. I'm surprised at how many go fast boaters dont see that... regardless of your personal favorite brand..... :bunny: |

I wouldn't go that far, but I am VERY impressed with the numbers those SV43's run. I've run with them a couple of times and they flat out haul azz for their size!
As Steve just mentioned, at FR he couldn't reel in that 43 with his Ilmor powered 32B Skater... IMO that's pretty damn impressive that the significantly smaller skater with 710 Ilmors couldn't reel in the much larger vee with 725 Ilmors in decent water. Those 43's run!!! |

I don't think Mike F has anytime to see whats up here. everytime I've been to OL, MIKE is either working on a boat, testing a boat, working with a customer, running over to the engine shop. but will take the time to answer a question or show you whats the latest project. it must be winter.:coolcowboy:
Ken's 40 does have 650's as I recall, but Steve and I were referring to the 43 with the 725's, not Ken's boat. I think Ken's will run a tick over 110 though, which is very impressive given the boat only has 650's in it! |

We'll have to agree to disagree. I won't buy a BMW for this exact reason. I don't want to be stereotyped for what I own...it's just that simple. They are awesome machines (BMW and OL) but I can't be bothered with the drama that surrounds them.

It should have been offered by Cigarette or Formula or Donzi (if they were in better shape right now).
There is also going to be a Howard Pipkorn special edition Checkmate! :coolcowboy: |

LMAO! Outerlimits announces a "special edition" boat to "honor" the founder of one of their key competitors. They even went so far as to include a photo of a Cigarette in the background of their rendering. Clearly this is no more than an obvious money-grab by Michael Aronow and a pretty poor marketing idea by OL.
When you've got half of OSO laughing at you, a company rep being called a douche, and the Banana Boat guy rushing to your defense, I'd call that a misfire! There are a lot of brands that can claim a bit of Aronow in their lineage...OL aint one of em! Think they'll ever sell one? |

Maybe for the next OL special edition they can use a photo of an old Excalibur that says Fountain on it and use it to honor Reggie? Hey if RF Powerboats doesn't want to invest in tooling right now, why not follow in the footsteps of the Aronow family and just license the name? My point is, these brands have heritage and when you whore out your name to the highest (or...only) bidder, you diminish it. |

I think the 399 skater bottom is faster than all of them. just my 2cents. The boat was the first boat with the two big steps and three little steps. The OL has it now. The skater was faster than any boat pound for pound against all competitors. They had to keep adding weight to make it fair. so before we get to carried away lets throw petter in to the mix
|
IMO a "Don Aronow Edition" seems more fitting on a Cig or Donzi thats for sho.....

I got to page 8. This is crazy!
Awesome boat OL! I wish you all the best!!! I'll be back in the family as soon as I get back on my feet. Count on it!!! |

Dan and his father Ken are definitely a couple of what I call the good guys on OSO who often contribute great information on here. Dan is a real Offshore enthusiast with Offshore Powerboating in his blood, polite, friendly, well brought up kid and smart. Mike F. is lucky to have someone like Dan working for OL., if I were in the marine industry I would want Dan on my team. No one is perfect except for maybe a few on here.

the way to test build quality...the ocean has no favorite brands. |
Just sayin but I think Don and even his son would put his stamp of approval on this one as well. PS, it has the #1 http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o42510-en.html

nice boost

Keep in mind to run through a patch of rough water & then smaller water is quite different then running tens of miles of rough water. Then do it for decades with the same boat! That's where hull design & build quality are paramount .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRayu3RSOrM

Am I the only one who would rather listen to the engines than Lady GooGoo?

This DA themed boat with a (1) on the sides does not raise my image of OL in any way. In fact, as others have pointed out, it leaves me scratching my head wondering why they would pull such a stunt when they are finally sitting atop the V bottom racing world and should be far above making such gaffs. Build your own brand image for having the fastest V bottoms on the planet and leave the memory of Don Aronow and the (1) logo with Cigarette where it has been in good hands for the last 40 years. I just read the entire thread start to finish.
My interesting "opinions". Not many here on OSO to shy to say what they really think. My opinion is OL should have used the number on this boat instead! Obviously the Don liked it, I was surprised no one on OSO made mention of it! Post # 166 - page 17. |
2005 Donzi 23 (22.6) Special Edition Aronow (Yellow)
I have a 2005 Donzi 23 (22.6) special edition ARONOW.
Only 7 boats were manufactured from this series. I think that the one I have is the only one remaining in the USA. The motor is a 496 MAG HO. The boat is yellow and it is like new barely used. I have had heard so many opinions about the boat and its value that I don't know where to start. I will like to sell it. Is there anyone that can give me information about this boat? Thank you for your attention. |
