For the first time in my life, I'm speechless. RIP

Phantom1 11-09-2011 09:06 PM

Please don't take the race continuing after the crash as any sign of lack of concern or disrespect. Racers are on the course with full confidence that the safety crews have their back....will be there quick....with a good result. If the "crash site" doesn't interfere with a clean line for the other boats, then the race goes on. The racers know this. The chopper pilots are instructed to hover in a manner that warns oncoming racers that there has been an incident. Many, many, many times, horrific accidents have ended with better results......just not so today. Sad...

Down To The Sea In Ships
Charles W. Mitchell

I have gone down to the sea
I have worked the ships
I have seen the glory of the Lord
I have quenched my lips.

I have lived the life of a Mariner
The world can be a united neighborhood
I have defied the will of Lucifer
Working the ships in an adventuresome good.

I have been to many mountains
I have been through the valley of the shadow of death
I have sailed the seven seas
The lifeline of ships is a manifestation of
"Open Sesame" and God's breath.

I have gone down to the sea
I did see the sky
The Lord is my Captain
The Lord does glorify.

As ships that pass in the night
I have met the twain
I did go down to the sea
I would do it yet again.

I'll miss you Bob

This has been an awful day. One of the worst in my life. Bob Morgan was the coolest guy I have ever known. I have had the honor of being his engine builder for the last 30 years and he has taught me more about boats and racing than anyone else I know. We only meet a handful of people in life that we can truly call friend and Bob was one of those to me. I loved and respected him and will truly miss his company. I did not know JT Tillman as well but he was a really nice guy. He always had time to speak a kind word and to make me feel welcome in his race pit. I know he really loved his Mom. I think that says a lot about his character.

Guys, you will be missed and my world is at a loss without you in it.

Eric Casperson

I had the opportunity to speak with Bob numerous times in the late 1990's while working for Active Thunder Boats. He was always fun to talk to and new how make boats run fast. Rest in peace and prayers to the families involved.

Very sad news and I feel really terrible for both their family & many friends, my prayers go out to all of you.

I never had the pleasure of meeting either of these guys, but throughout the years I've always admired Bob for his obvious dedication to this sport he cared so much for and the true hot rodding spirit he had..

I have no doubt both of them will be dearly missed by many..

This puts a tear in my eye---GODSPEED Bob & JT

waterboy222 11-10-2011 12:53 AM

Jim Lee, me, BLee, and many others did a toast tonight to bob and JT at Ricks here in Key west. As sad as this is, everyone here is only celebrating his life, not mourning the loss. Hearing the stories from a time before I could even see over the steering wheel has been a real honor. I met Bob when the Skater was "bad moon risin", he answered every question I had and loved bs'ing about boats. I think he would be happy to see all his friends share and celebrate his life the way everyone has. I know that's how I'd want it to be myself.

There's a memorial at 9 AM in the pits tomorrow for anyone that would like to be there.

RIP Skater Bro's....

fireboatpilot 11-10-2011 12:58 AM

My prayers and condolences go out to both families and their friends for their terrible loss. These gentlemen and their families put their hearts into this sport and now have given the ultimate sacrifice. They deserve our best prayers and wishes and will be remembered as heros and pioneers of the sport. RIP!
