Our Sport of Powerboat racing took a great hit on November 9th. May Bob and Jeff rest in peace. They are both great men. Lake of the Ozarks will never be the same. My prayers are truly with their families. God Bless.

I heard from Pat D (love ya) earlier today and there was a memorial for Bob and JT this morning in the pits. Pat said "Jim Black was so eloquent and Sue is doing well. We just shouldn't have a flag at 1/2 mast or racers crying at a race site"

Amen.

AB From Windsor 11-10-2011 12:37 PM

Still am numb, thinking about the lost of two great racers and I didn't know either of them personally but felt like I knew them after reading about Bob Morgan and Big Thunder for years whether racing or at the Lotto Shootout. My Condolences to their families, friends and everyone like my self that read about them for years. RIP

So sad. Prayers for all involved. A site I get some news from had an article. It said Mr. Morgan came out of retirement just for this race. Just doesn't seem fair but accidents never do. Not sure about posting link, I don't want offend anyone. I so admire the people who take the risk of racing autos, motorcycles, boats. Just to bring to those of us who can't, or won't, the thrill, excitement and love they have doing it. We have lost some in each one in the past few weeks. RIP.

Fountain38 11-10-2011 04:06 PM

Truly a great loss to the race world. Its always a tragedy when this happens and it is never easy to loose someone that is well liked. My prayers are for peace to the family knowing that they were doing what they loved doing the most. God bless

Rip Bob and Jeff

very sad news. thought go out to the families during this hard time. rip

scarab63 11-10-2011 04:19 PM

Any word on possible cause of accident? Equipment malfinction, driver error, wave, wind gust, ? Etc....etc.....
Looked like they weren't running too loose before it happened.

Very upsetting to watch knowing the outcome.

RIP Guys. Very sad. It did look windy in that one video.....who knows and we'll probably never really know. Very sad for sure. :(

scarab63 11-10-2011 04:57 PM

Just curious, uscg usually conducts some type of investigation on boating accidents.
Watched vid a few times last night until I couldn't stomach it anymore.
Didn't know the guys, but still very upsetting given the outcome.

big thunder

I believe they thought they had cleared the bad water and started trimming up ahead of time and caught a freak swell and thats when the boat took off. Thats the only thing I can come up with. Very sad. RIP.

The OSS Board Chairman issued the following statement,

"On behalf of the Teams, National Staff and Board of Directors of the Offshore Super Series, we would like to send our condolences to the families and crew of the Big Thunder Team, who lost Bob Morgan and Jeffery Tillman today in Key West. Both men will be missed and were true gentlemen and legends in the offshore fraternity. On a personal note, Bob's passing greatly distresses myself, Ruth, Dennis, Monica, Charlie and Leah as we raced with my brother-in-law, Randy Linebach, Bob and his wife Sue for 3 years under the Airborne/Big Thunder colors. Bob and Jeff will truly be missed."

Weird thing is, the "front" of the enclosure is damaged more than the rear. Isn't that the opposite end of the force?
