This scene was truly amazing.......I'm so glad I happened to be there when it happened and I'm sorry the clip didn't include the touching tribute Billy made on top of the boat just before they played this.
Words can't describe how powerful this was .....Duval has seen a touch of class.
thank you Billy

Thumbs up

We were down in on Duval street when they were playing. It was a very touching tribute and sent chills up my spine listening to them play.

Thank you for sharing the clip all I took was a couple of photos with my phone...

I missed Billy speaking but it looked like he pulled up a naval officer and a new bride and groom to join the band on his boat before the band left his boat. Also a very nice gesture.

It was these moments that made this week special...so many ups and downs I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything.

I saw it in person. Duval has never been so quiet on a Friday night.
Very touching tribute to those men. I also gained a totally new respect for Billy (WHM).
Very, very emotional week in KW.

Earlier today, I sent an e-mail to the Wantagh American Legion Pipe Band thanking them for taking the time to honor Joey, Bob and JT. I just received this response:

Mike, I recieved your email from my friends in the Wantagh American Legion Pipe Band. I am one of the founding members. I invite those guys to come play with us, as well as the members of the Suffolk County Police Pipes and Drums Band. This year we did not have a bass drummer which didnt matter since WALPB and SCPD had theirs.

We met the WHM boys last year and played on the boat. This year it was our honor to play for those who died in the crashes. Sad day for all of us.

We will be back next year. If you want to set up a tribute let me know. Thank you for your kind words.

I can not speak for Billy, but I'm a fellow Long Islander, and since 9/11 I have a whole new respect for the pipe band playing anything, much less Amazing Graze. I heard that many times a day for many days, and these days it means a whole lot more than it used to. I wasn't down in Key West last week, but my heart was. Very nice job Billy, you make me proud- as a fellow LIer and as a race fan. Godspeed
