It's getting Better and Badder each year. Pray for No wind!!

502ss 01-13-2012 11:15 AM

Would love to attend but wouldn't be bringing a boat, is there enough to see and do from land to still make the trip worthwhile?

Thanks
Jim

Some serious equipment has already signed up for the Havasu Boat Show. Look for the debut of DCB's new M-40 -- John Cosker at Mystic is bringing a new 50-footer with twin 1350s -- and the new Doug Wright 32-foot open cockpit poker run edition will be there too!

There is absolutely enough to do on land.

There's the docks in front of host hotel The Nautical Inn where the charity rides will be held at on Wed. The street party is an all day event of stimulas overload on Thursday, the poker run on Friday will bring boats coming and going from the london bridge channel and The Nautical Inn all day (all easily enjoyed from land lock). Plus there's non stop scenery at The Naked Turtle Bar and Poker Run Village on the golf course at the Nautical Inn.

Not to mention you'll probably end up running into someone you know with a boat or finding a new BFF with a boat. If all else fails and you absolutely need to get on the water, there's boat and pontoon rentals near the London Bridge Resort.

You'll have a blast and wont regret coming.

Always something to do plus like Tank said getting a ride usually isn't hard, the last two years i went with a crew of 4 and ended up with 10.
Granted i brought the cruiser so had a lot of room but even when running the Cig we seem to pickup a passenger or two.

mrb30 01-13-2012 04:25 PM

Already on the schedule for us!!!

It is a 1 mile course with a 1 mile shutdown that should be wind protected.

Very nice looking traffic jam. Wish it was a 1000 miles closer.

twocents 01-21-2012 11:49 PM

The POPRA Offshore Grand Prix race is definitely on for the Havasu Boat Show. Testing on Friday, April 20 and racing on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. If you have a boat and would like to run, POPRA will find a way to fit you in a class. Check out www.pacificoffshore.com for details and contact info.

Check out the news on the new Shootout course.

http://speedonthewater.com/in-the-ne...ut-course.html

I've been covering the poker run for many years and can't wait to see how the new course works out and what else Jim Nichols and the crew at LakeRacer LLC have in store for the event in late April.

ChargeIt 01-22-2012 03:30 PM

“The new course will be easier to manage, including eliminating boat traffic along the California side closest to the course, as well as having a strictly enforced ‘no wake zone’ along the Arizona side,”

Great to see!
The cool thing about this location and Havasu is non spectating boats can pass thought the Channel and avoid the race course entirely.
The larger wakes from the Thompson Bay side will have longer to travel and hopefully lose energy.

Its going to take significant pre event and launch site notifications as well as active volunteer patrol boat work to shut down some of the "it's all about me" west coast captians but I would expect a few well placed WP boats with lights on would get boaters' attention.
"no wake" banners over the gunwals?

Course change is encouraging. Best of luck in 2012!

502ss 02-09-2012 08:50 PM

Definetly looks like I will be going but for only one day :( out of all the days, which is the best? Don't care so much about seeing the boats out of the water but more seeing/hearing them in the water, remember I will also be land locked!!

Thanks

RollWithIt 02-09-2012 09:15 PM

I'm going to be in havasu for the 26 and 27th with the girlfriend. The 27th will be my birthday so I'm looking forward to spending it there. Won't have the boat with us but we are definately going to take in the sights and sounds while there.

In2Deep 02-10-2012 12:50 PM

fun event.

502ss 02-22-2012 05:29 PM

Just booked our trip to Vegas and will be spending Friday the 27th in havasu. Hopefully the sites and sounds will be plentiful! :D

Ive attended in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. Everytime I towed a boat 2500 miles (roundtrip). Personally, I think having a boat there adds to the enjoyment but its not 100% necessary. I do enjoy cruising the channel, sitting on the back of your boat and watching all the hardware rumble by is priceless. Furthermore the top speed runs and the offshore races (when they dont cancel them) are ONLY enjoyed from a boat. Yes, the streetfair and the naked turtle will keep you entertained but you will always be longing to be out on the water (especially after a LONG winter).

Just my $.02

Based on the piectures, this is pretty much a "big boat" only event?

I plan to get there by 8:00am! What kind of traffic can I expect in and around havasu? Will I be sitting in grid lock for hours trying to get to the hot spot viewing areas?

Last year there were a good amount of smaller boats ie 24ft-27ft's out there. Granted, compared to the "big boys" I did feel like I was in a Smart Car in my 27ft lol! I will be going again this year in my 28ft......so hopefully that 1 extra ft will make a difference :evilb:
