Not Bad for a Clip On ;)

Check this guy out. I know some really fast O/B guys but this is pretty impressive.
Watch the meter (GPS) pin @ 120 while the boats still pullin hard!
Reports are he's turned a 36" wheel 7400 through 1.62 gears.
With 10% slip boys and girls, that's 140.2 :lolhit:
If we drop slip to a more likely 8% (very light boat) we're @ 143.3
Most O/B's going this fast are full tilt, work bench, race motors and most full of juice. This thing idles like a Singer and is as quiet.
Very impressive.

Love the vidio of the prop. Great vidio.

machloosy 01-26-2012 09:02 AM

That is well beyond scary. All kinds of ballsy!

Wondering how many on this site realize how reasonable a toy like this is?? Thinking the guys w/the high zoot boats, cars, bikes etc woul;d have a hoot w/one on a weekday after work....
That rig all new, turn key would run probably $50K but I know of another one very similar in absolute perfect condition (probably 120+ boat) that sold I think in the $20's.
Very easy to drive and actually relatively safe if your anal w/your pre flight check list, wear your gear and don't drive over your head.
I've been into the teens several times in friends boats and if conditions are correct you don't feel it all.
We had a guy run 151+ in a near identical boat w/a nitrous motor a couple yrs back.

Boatman, agreed. Shows how lucky/spoiled we O/B guys are being able to control X dimension w/a button on the dash. Also shows it is possible to completely surface a gear case. A guy over seas even did it w/a stock gear case! (99% you don't need a cone except for water p/u and most of my 80 mph boats ran faster w/o them) Installed a transom water p/u and put a blower on his 225 Honda O/B and went over a 100 with it.
Another thing you learn to respect are props and lower units when being surfaced. Absolutely amazing they live at all in that condition. After seeing that it put L/U maintenance way up on my list compared to where it was before and I was rewarded w/much better L/U life.

Cool, but can you fish from that canoe? :lolhit:

Man that looked fun and by the looks of the speedo it was pullling hard.. I had almost forgot how fun some of the smaller boats can be untill I took a buddy's Hydrostream out a while back and played around for a little while, and in good water it quiclky brought my memory back around.

Twin O/B Sonic 01-26-2012 10:36 AM

My new toy. Hydrostream V-King w/my work bench motor.

Cashbar, sure but your bait would only hit the water every other county ;)

of coarse the gearcases live there pushing a surf board no load

A.O. Razor 01-26-2012 01:08 PM

What is this. A Full Throttle Powerboats T3 or T4? STV Maybe? It's sure haulin' azz.

Smarty 01-26-2012 01:18 PM

My guess would be a 19' STV River Rocket. I have always liked the hot-rod outboards like the Allison, STV, Hydrostream, and Stoker. I

That is cool video, I appreciate a hot-rod like that. Thanks for the post.

Yeah, but I can't really fit the shape of the bow with an STV. That's why I thought the T3 or T4.

You are probably right. Cool boat. Maybe a bow comparison to the video. An STV and a Full Throttle pictured below. I am no expert. I do like the T-3.

Twin O/B Sonic 01-26-2012 02:31 PM

All excellent guesses.

Thank you. I learned something, and that is a good thing. If I want to go 120+mph in an outboard that Mirage would be an excellent choice.

STV River Rocket (bellow w/o the extra seats) and always thought they had the best lines of any boat that size/style. Now I really like the new Quarter Shots and am liking the Mirages more and more.
My STV was a 3 seat boat I converted to 4 and it sucked. Way too tight. They make a STV Euro Sport w/tons of interior space but it looks like a mini van.
A buddy had a 4 seat Mirage that did everything well. Near identical to the one in the video but 4 seats. He had a box stock 300X on and had been 120 many times and claims 125 once but could never repeat. Regardless, that's w/oil injection, closed exhaust, computer controlled..., idled and shifted like a ficshe bote.
My favorite of all.
The little boats are affordable, easy to maintain and a blas to play with. You haven't done the Keys until you've chased a dozen buddies from Key Largo to the Islamorada sand bar at a 100 in a bit of a chop and breeze ;)

That would be fun, running at 100 mph in one of those. I like the idea of the 300x on one of those. I find it intriguing if someone puts on of those Seven Marine 557s on the back of an STV or Mirage. That would be something else if the transom weight is not an issue.

Twin O/B Sonic 01-26-2012 06:32 PM

Way too much.....

weight to be worth while. There's a guy out west that has reportedly made 573 HP with a 3.3 liter JohnRude w/o juice and is a sub 400 lb package.
Rumors are he may be going after the 176 mph O/B record with it.
A friend has a de-tuned version on his Allison bass boat and it made over 450 on pump gas.
If someone wrote a check for a pair of those to put on a lightweight cat or V they'd have something. 500 may be realistic.
Now you're talking about 1000 hp's out of twins w/a combined weight of 800lbs!
A friend is building a V-8 JohnRude that will be over 500 w/JohnDeer torque.

in. My whole brain storm since moving to Sebastian has been to have a toy like in this in the backyard. Something fast enough to scare the bajesus out of myself but cheap enough to leave in the weeds until I get the itch.
My thinking is, throw the boat in by the house early Saturday morning for a solo blast. As in no Mrs to scream at me to slow down.
Light the ***** up and head to Melbourne/Cocoa somewhere 30 - 40 mls away for breakfast on the water.
Do the return trip same way. By the time I get it home and sprayed off I should be done shaking. A month later, ready to do it again :drink:

ActiveFun 01-27-2012 11:38 AM

Wow that was a long run over 120. Looked like he was going kinda fast pulling into the shore at the end.

Fountain38 01-27-2012 12:15 PM
