Aerators???
Ian at Ilmor asked me today if I wanted these on my new 477 NT w/ 725's & Indy's! Said they help plane but don't effect other run'n issues!! I have never dealt w/ this issue & don't know Jack Chit about it!! He said on a 43 Sunny it cut plane'n X down alot w/ no other ramifications!! I know the 1 400 Formula SS has them as I have seen them many X's on it's hoist & I think Ian said the new 38 Formula is gunna get them??? Thoughts, Thanx, Tracy:daz::daz::daz:

As soon as you are on plane and the top half of the prop is out of the water, they have no function, so no they won't affect handling. The only thing I saw once, was trim and low speed manuvering issues because they were mounted too close to the swim platform, which restricted movement of the drives. That is not a common problem, that's just a moron mounting them.

Your new boats going to be awesome either way! You will learn the "sweet spot" and how it likes to be driven. I know this does not help much, and understand you asking the question. :coolcowboy:
Looking forward to reading better advice though! |
Hey Doc,
Can't you just use that new dental laser you trained on out here in Vegas to cut holes in the drives and add these yourself ...? :D |

I have used aerators in the past with mixed results. They will help you on plane but the downside is you will be using a lot of rpm in the process. I actully took them off the boat as I was tired of spinning 5000 rpm everytime I planned off. I would rather ease up on plane with less noise and less drama. Personally I would not install them unless you have a problem planning off. They can always be added later. The other downside is you are cutting rather large hole in the drive cavitation plate for the tube.

What are they? anyone got a pic of what wrink is talking about? Is it the tube I often see coming off of #6 drives?
