Why such hate towards Outerlimits?

Just some info i have turned up my 1075s on my 43 and have seen speeds over 150. Not to let cat out of the bag , but have bin in another 43 at factory with 1400hp and seen 178 on rev limiter. Mike can break record at any time, more worried in building and selling boats right now.

The same person that bought the boat from Pier 57 a few years ago still owns it today.
The transom was not damaged from use or build. The boat was set up for 6's when Reggie set the KILO with it. The 1550's were taken out by Reggie Jr, he also filled the transom and converted to a 525 Bravo boat. When the current owner bought the boat he converted it to a SSM6 boat and had Capt Naber's beef up the transom. The boat is currently on consignment with us and has fresh power.

I did not personally see the repair, were only told by Tom that it was beefed up and that when it was rigged with Bravo's it could have been done better. It's our understanding that the thickness was not problem, but rather the way it was fixed when converted from 6's to Bravo's. I am not sure if owner of boat is on board but I am sure if he is he would be happy to share any insight or pictures. Tom is one of the best in the industry at transoms. Darn shame it was ever converted from 6's to bravos. No question it was light layup and if you know Tom you know any work owner did was done properly. Still a very cool boat at the end of the day and can be seen from time to time on Lake MI. Can't be to bad, after all it still holds the kilo and has never delaminated. A bit more HP and it would be a great poker run boat or enter in a P Class for racing.

If this is the boat you saw, this s the one that had the kilo. It was the RioRoses/Fountain/Pier 57 boat that was driven by Reggie Sr & Ben Robertson to set the record. Pretty cool piece of history. Yes, it was the one at Naber's that had to be taken care of after they converted from 6's to bravo's back to 6's.

I'd like to see Fountain match the 171 record with a boat based on a production lay-up hull. But it can't happen because things have changed at Fountain.

This was in Feb '09 that I saw this boat at a well known glass shop west of Chicago. I had a good discussion with the owner of the shop and he showed me how thin the outer skin was where some holes were exposed on the side. It was a record speed setting Fountain but was not the boat that went 171.

Very cool Donzi Classic, Tom restores quite a few of those for people. You are right ALL boats should be surveyed, it's the best $13 - $16.00 per ft a consumer can spend. There is actually a new FLIR camera that some surveyors have that works like an xray machine and they can see into the structure, it's very cool.

I really cannot be sure if that was the boat. I did not take pictures. There was a large logo at the stern that was half gone and covered in primer. It may have said Pier 57, I don't remember. The outer layer of glass at the side thru-hulls was literally no more that 2 mm thick. If I were buying that boat I would have my surveyor pop out a thru-hull and look at the lay-up. You might want to correct the speed record in the description from 177.883 to 171.883.

I was just giving the reported numbers of all recent attempts for argument sake.
