i sold a stelling box to a guy in cali, i sent him pics and all nthat stuff, he say its chipped, and needs two seals, note its used, one seal is the one that mounts the box to the transom, the other is a bearing seal which i didnt see it needed.he saw the pics, and agreed now hes nick pickin it i will pay for the seals but why should i have to worry about anything else if he looked at the pics and agreed.then the shipping cost me a xtra 110.00

mrquad1 02-15-2012 08:22 PM

sounds like you are trying to be fair, like you said used.did you receive the pics i sent?

johnnyboatman 02-15-2012 08:27 PM

never got the pics, but if they got slop in the steering then most likely they will need shafts and seals, not to get off course, but when a ext box is mounted like a gimbal they are hard as hell to unstick the glue.

mrquad1 02-15-2012 08:30 PM

will resend pics to your e-mail

blownhammer2000 02-15-2012 08:30 PM

new seals from you sounds like your doing more than most would, he saw the pics, agreed to the purchace, buying used usually means as-is condition unless other wise noted, i'd send him the seals and call it good, he should of bought new if he wanted it perfect

johnnyboatman 02-15-2012 08:40 PM

thats what i thought to.

ROB FREEMAN 02-15-2012 08:45 PM

everybody wants new for used price , he got what he baught , id send him nothing if there was an attitude invilved ,

johnnyboatman 02-15-2012 08:50 PM

yes new for used, i wish he would drive over here and let me pay him, face to face. i sent him pics he agreed what else am i supposed to do.

mike tkach 02-15-2012 09:17 PM

the seal for mounting to the transom must always be replaced, never use it twice,or it will leak.if i baught a used xbox,i would automatically replace all seals, and check the bearing,if it was new, these things would not need to be checked, also, the powder coating on stellings box is not the best, even when new, every one i have ever seen more than 3 years old, even if never seen salt water, has some peeling or flaking.my powdercoater will do a xbox for under 100 dollars.ya just cant make everybody happy, some people will *****,even if you hang them with a new rope:lolhit:

johnnyboatman 02-15-2012 10:08 PM

hey janows6 why dont you post some pics and show how bad it is for the people of oso to decide how bad it was misrepresented, the more i look at the pics,

glassdave 02-15-2012 10:25 PM

That sounds pretty minor and nit pickin. When I buy used I automatically consider it needing reconditioning on some if not all levels. The only way I would consider otherwise is if I was paying like eighty or ninety perfect of new. I would never think a used anything is a bolt on and go piece.

I sold a sportmaster gearcase to a guy last year. He calls me a month later and says he just put it on that day. He said he checked it before running it and it was full of water. Now, I just put in new gearlube about an hour before I shipped it so I know he was BS'n me. I just said "fine, send it back for a full refund" He said he wanted $600. I just told him No, that's OK. I'll just send you a full refund. I never heard from him again!

johnnyboatman 02-16-2012 09:08 AM

this guy wont post pics cause hes a little whiny *****, he took it apart, so why should i have to do any thing about it, they dont powdercoat the frt of it, and it has a dime size chip, and where it boats up to thr transom the edges which never get thick powdercoat is then, he afraid to post pics of the damages but i will.

TexomaPowerboater 02-16-2012 09:25 AM

Did you tell him the parts were as is, no warranties express or implied? If so, I'd tell him to pound sand. Not your fault he didn't come to look at it in person.

johnnyboatman 02-16-2012 09:34 AM

i sent him pics from a camera and not a iphone as he asked, they look like they did in the pics,i offered to pay for the seals but i guess he wants a new one, powdercoat would cost 200 at the most. im starting to reelly get pissed at his emails towards me. and hes afraid to post pics but i got them and im going to post them so everyone can beaware of this guy, cause all hes doing is trying to get more money out of me to make it easier on him.

glassdave 02-16-2012 09:45 AM

Without getting into actual numbers roughly what percent was the purchase price over a new one?

johnnyboatman 02-16-2012 09:50 AM

I received the extension box today and honestly from how it was worded on OSO closest thing to brand new. I have to tell you I'm not really pleased. Overall the box is in good condition but here's where the problems are. #1 there is no transom seal it's going to cost me $20 to get one from Stelling. #2 There are scrapes on the side of the box and the one access plate, and on the opposite side major chipping where it was mounted to the transom so it has to be repainted. #3 The grease seal for the carrier bearing has to be replaced it's not just hanging out outside of where it belongs. How the ad was worded and what needs to be done to this it was not worth $1925.00

this is what he wrote me first.

johnnyboatman 02-16-2012 09:51 AM

half price
