has anyone proven or disproven the wax=slower theory? I'm all for a clean hull too if it doesn't slow me down.

When we get a shipment of flatboats that's what they stack them on.

My experience shows a hull kept in water will still discolor with wax on the bottom.

My father was given a tub of this wax back in the late 80's. It has been sitting on a shelf unused since then up until last year. After being applied to the hull and lower in anticipation of the few days the boat would be sitting in the slip, I was amazed to find that the boat picked up several MPH at cruise and there wasn't even the usual faint waterline stain. A quick wash/rinse and the stuff came off without much trouble at all.

It is the only product of its type that I've seen, and it works as advertised.
