Not really insurance. You just use another lock or a size larger socket to take them off. Then you can never seem to find the key when you need it. That's how I learned to get mine off the other ways. If you are scared the take them with you when you leave.

well, my boat sits in the driveway but i know how easy it it to take them off. I would hope there are no two locks alike? Thats the whole idea isn't it?? Im looking at the mcguard brand that has the "spinning" colar that need the "key" to be installed to get it off.

I have the McGards since the boat sits on a lift with the drives/props right there in open view on the walkway.

Have had to remove one when key was lost. A simple dremel with a cut off wheel to slice thru most of the collar, chisel to split it the rest way off, then and a socket tapped on with a hammer unscrewed the lock right off. Probably removed in a couple minutes at most. Not thief proof, just a deterrent for those looking for a fast grab and run. I have pics of mine installed, so if nothing else, I can show the Ins co I made an effort to secure them.

The Bblades prop locks look like a nice bit of kit.

Holy crap, that's the ticket. Been using Mcgard had problems with key slots rounding caming out, they wouldn't stand behind their product.

Calling bblades, very cool design.

yes, im sure they can be taken off without the key, they are a good deterrent, a thief isn't gonna sit out in the driveway and work on getting this thing off... The bblades lock looks impressive, i'll check it out, looks expensive. Im curious how it looks sticking out past the hub and what are the effects of water coming off of it.....drag..etc??? maybe nothing?

The point is to get the thief to steal your neighburs props instead of yours, so to speak. Besides, they are not expensive. Props and gas is expensive, these cost $69.99. They don't stick that much furter out than the tip of the shaft, so no problem at all. You'd need one heck of a long prop shaft to get those kind of problems, it's not like with a diffuser ring/barrel.
