What year is this boat and are those the original drives? Are you 100% sure those are Bravo 1's? It is hard to tell from the one picture of the drives but those drives sure look a lot like mine and mine is an Alpha SS. It was Mercruiser's performance drive for like 3-4 years before the Bravo came out (1986-1989 if memory serves correct). I have had people (even a well known local prop shop guy) try to convince me that someone had added a nose cone to the drive. That is not correct they came like that from Mercruiser and are also a little shorter than the standard Alpha's.

no, you can see the outline of the add-on nosecone. also counter-rotating drives. the drives are turning in, not out. which also adds stern lift. also big block-Alpha was 1987 only. TRS last production year was 86. Bravo's debut in 88.

Let me add that aftermarket hydraulic steering will not take all of the play out of your system if things are worn out. It will only take the play out of the steering components. Everything else - like worn gimble rings - will still have slop in them and will still cause problems. One more reason to have somebody in the know look the boat over.
