How many hours do you average a boating season?
BTW, my Baja eats IMCO SC's every season I boat, and they have EVERY upgraded part you can buy. To much power is to much power, and I baby the boat on plane, never jump, change gear oil every 18-20 hours, etc etc. Lucky to get 50 hours of driving like a grandma! I want to NEVER THROTTLE BACK (like my boat name) but that will never happen till I upgrade to Arneson's. |

For my application and many others, the Arnesons involved moving the motors, filling the notch, and #6 or equivalent props. All that plus the cost of the drives and other hardware priced it out well over $50K. Sorry for the misquote on the Konrads, they are closer to $40k installed. As for the SCX, Other than a different hood and tie bar ($2500), they were pretty much plug and play. Imco SCX - http://www.diamondperformanceparts.c...roductid=16817 Konrad - http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/n...g-savings.html This is just my research from doing the upgrade last winter, different applications may be more or less. |

Two things.
As Kreed Mentioned, it's not an apples to apples comparison. More like apples to eeh,, bowlingballs. Even on your little cat, you've been pretty lucky. An interesting point about your '04 drive is, that the '02-'04 XR gears, are probabley the best XR gears around. After that, they went steadily down hill fast and are reduced to the crap they are today. I'll bet you anything that when you do rebuild your drive, you will have all the classic XR gear issues afterwards. I guess the only man on earth that is completely oblivious to this is Fred Kiekhaefer, but then again, hs also finds nothing wrong with Mercs CMI headers:lolhit: |
I had a Teague drive on my Kryptonite and had great luck with it, forgot to mention that in the list of options I looked at. The SCX was better for my application.

I dont disagree that the boats are different. He asked about the drive and I answered about the drive that everyone says its just an XR but I think I showed it does last.
If I had the boat in question I would be running a #6. Well see....NOW we're getting somewhere! Hahaha :lolhit: |

I agree we are getting somewhere. Anyone want to buy a pair of XR's with 40 hours since rebuild. They have Billet Marine caps with built in drive showers. |
The truth here is a bravo drive was never intended to have a 700+hp motor in front of it. If you ask merc they will tell you thats why they make a #6. Unfortunately alot of us fall into the category of having a bravo where it should be a #6. In my case it wasn't so much the horsepower issue as it is propshaft height. Your options are limited by cost of what you can afford to do within somewhat of a reasonable budget. In my case I chose the scx-4. Mainly because of the people willing to work with me. John Teague has a deal with Hering, they help you choose a prop and as long as you don't damage it they will make any mods. free of charge to make it work in your ap. When your buying the #6 props this is huge, cause we all know what they cost. As far as how the drives will preform I guess we will have to wait and see, being their a new design. Before I bought these I talked to Craig Wilson and also Reggie, Reggie sugested to go with a shorter drive said it is what my boat really need's. Talking to Craig in Miami he echoed the same thing. The only way to do it reliably was with a #6 propshaft and surface drive. left me with 3 options a #6, scx-4, or a asd. #6 is to much cash, asd although everybody talks high about these, just doesn't seem to be anybody who has done this and is on here saying what a great setup it is, had the one guy with the formula i think last fall but he had his share of setbacks and problems and I dont think he has it sorted out yet. If I remember right he didn't pick up much speed either. Not bashing them but just no track record to go on. So for me it was the Imco, the support help made my choice for me.

Are you refering to KJM5125s 382 fastech with ASD #7Ms? He's not dialed in yet at all, is most likely running the wrong props and has less than 10 hours total seat time with the drives. He has already picked up 2 mph over hes all time best with the XRs and SC -2s. There is a lot left on the table for that boat. He did have a transmission problem on hes first outing, but Rik and Arneson just shipped him an entire new tranny ready to drop in within a week, so no problems there and none since. It's going to be interesting to follow hes dialing in this season. |
Yes that is the one If I remember didn't he have to move his motors? Not sure about that thou.
It sounds like with some work and time he will get it figured out and yes will be nice to finally see how it all comes together. |

Looks like a limited time offer on the pricing you listed. Not exactly apples to apples especially in the performance |
