I like the new engines.

Wildman_grafix 03-14-2012 11:44 PM

Do these use the same headers as the 525's?

In the pics. I've seen they appear to be the same. Mercury has to be aware of the defects with these by now.

Hmmm... "Recall" is exactly the term car manufacturers use when they ask customers to return products in order to replace some component with a better one. ;) Interesting that valve seats would be an issue in big blocks after almost 50 years of development.

Anyway - Kudos to Mercury Racing for standing behind their product. It's a good thing that they caught the problem early.

Agreed.

1. Cut the "wordsmithing." Just be straight up.

2. Stand up job on taking care of your customers and keeping us believing in your products.

To be fair - any component can be an issue- Ilmor had a spring problem early on and went to every client affected and changed them out on the spot.

You dont have to mince words when doing the right thing.
Give it to us straight up and well respect you even more than we already do.

Hi Dave,

I don't want to revisit this in depth. But if you read back, one of people who posted suggested that product "update" is more accurate than "recall," and based on the situation itself and the lexicon used in the automobile world (and the software wold but that's a weak comparison, I admit), I too, believe "update" more accurate.

No "wordsmithing." The goal is word accuracy.

I'll draw the same analogy I drew before, and leave it alone because I don't hope to change minds, merely support my decisions:

In journalism, when you run a "correction" you vow to work harder next time. When you run a "retraction" someone loses his job. And yet the public uses the terms interchangeably all the time.

Of course, you are entitled to disagree. All the best.

Im under the impression you are passing along the message accurately as its given to you - rather than crafting it for Mercury Marine.

I could easily be wrong.

Fair enough though in any case.

Thank you Matt.

I think the real problem here is how UGLY the engine is.....When is Mercury going to "UPDATE" that problem!!! :lolhit:

Matt, you did the right thing by informing us whats going on, and we all appreciate that. Thanks

Why all of the fuss over a word? Some people need to go boating more I think. If Mercury Racing is comfortable allowing a customer to run these engines until the first service interval then they must be comfortable that there will not be a catastrophic failure. I am sensing some bitterness and maybe jealousy here.

I also like this engine with the exception of the top cover. If there is a cover like that it is usually to hide something ugly.......
