It would be cool to see a comparison between the two.

Dyno and boat, kind of like they did years ago on the 700's.

Not holding my breath though, that would be a investment to do.

What is the cost for each engine? How about engine + drive?

I did hear merc will keep selling the 525 as long as there is demand, so could you also post prices on that package also?

I would also like to see both engines packaged with the Mercury ITS and sportmaster lower priced. Thanks!

Anyone ever find out what seats they found to hold up better than the originals? Guessing they had ductile iron, and moved to a better seat that holds up over time

Good question MT

From my research, it seems that ductile iron are the common high performance seats you get in most aftermarket heads. Ductile iron is easy to machine, and doesnt work harden over time. So , when rebuild time comes, cutting a fresh valve job on a ductile iron seat, is fairly easy. The downside, is they dont last as long , dont handle the high temps as well as a powdered metal seat. The powdered metal seats are what about all of the oem vehicles have gone to, as they hold up well with unleaded fuels. To meet emission standards, they cant have exhaust valves leaking at 75k miles.

The old days, you would have leaky valves at 100k miles. Nowdays, 200k miles and still a good valve seal.

Seems high performance marine engines, should not be using ductile iron seats if they are looking for longevity. Obviously mercury had a reason to switch valve seat materials, wonder what the details were.
