Best single single engine hull
New to boat as of last summer so trying to learn as much as i can....Lets say you were going to run a Merc 525sc for instance
What would you guys say is they best single engine hull? Looking for speed, handling, total package basically... |
IMO its the Eliminator 26 foot cat. With a 496 mag HO it will run 80 mph effortlessly. I dont know what the top speed would be with a 525 but I wouldnt be suprised to see close to 85-90 with that package.
In a V hull I know the 25 foot Nordic Rage will run 75 mph with a 496 mag ho. Again, not sure with a 525 but I guess close to 80 mph. Between the 2 its the Eliminator hands down--very stable at speed. |
Velocity VR 1, mine still holds the APBA F 1 Kilo record!
|
Best in what way???? and what budget???? cabin??? length??? sit down or stand up boat???? rough water ability????
There are simply too many variables and the best for one person is not the best for another. |

There are simply too many variables and the best for one person is not the best for another. I see his sig says Long Island, maybe we can assume he'll be running the Sound or Atlantic, or GSB? If so, the Nordic or Eliminator in the second post won't cut it. |
Oh, this should be good. :party-smiley-004:
Not claiming it's the "best", but this is what I have. 30' Superboat Y2K w/525. It will run 80, great in rough or flat water, decent cockpit space, huge cabin, 32' LOA, reasonably priced, and can be built exactly to your specifications. |
This guy must be new here, everyone knows that by asking this you just get a bunch of single engine owners saying that their hull is best.
Lets be serious, Kryptonite 29' all the way for a single engine sit down.:party-smiley-004: |

This is an easy one. The 29 Fountain.
|
Tc g, by 29 fountain do you really mean a 26-27'? LOL sorry bad joke....
My opinion is the boats below. Anything bigger is too much boat for a single. 28 a/t, 28 pantera, 28 Apache, 28 powerplay All rough water beasts, there's some good pantera vids on YouTube in some nasty water. |

The 27' Active thunder is another good candidate and I'll toss in the name Laveycraft and their Nu-Era models in the 26-28 ft. range. Very good handling in rough stuff and yet bullet fast with the right power! Also beautifully built and rigged as well. A West Coast boat that gets overlooked on the East Coast and Midwest yet is a good rival for the other Coasters! Two of my favorites.
Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |
Sorry guys, should have been more specific. I will be using the boat mainly in the LI sound and maybe some ocean use if I get the hang of it. I guess a 28' and smaller, stand up and with some cuddy space to have a place to stay if the beers are flowing haha. I know the budget is a huge limiting factor with boats but let's say 25k. Thanks for the info. Newbie here!!

I picked up a like new Velocity 280 with 50 hours on it that runs mid 80's with a 522 for under $30k. I run it in Northern Lake Huron is some fairly rough water at 50+ and my wife thinks it rides just fine.

Not a Donzi 22 Classic, too small. But it will do 85 with a 525..

I doubt you're going to get a 525SC engine and great hull for under $25k, unless you already have the engine. 28 Pantera, PowerPlay, AT, Lavey Craft, and Eliminator Eagle are all great boats but it will be tough to get one with that package for your budget.
Thanks guys |

You live in the land of Superboats, Kryptonite, Activator, Hustler. There's got to be some of those hulls fs up there to put your motor in.

Hey Nate. I like all these boats, But I hate waiting for nasty water to have fun. So I lean to the activator/kryptonite/warlock type boats. Insanely fast great in all water and modern hulls.

I think there was a Kryptonite hull for sale in the Swap Shop a while ago. do a search. Good Luck. you could probably find a 25 Active Thunder in your budget too.
|
money no object the rpm redline 26 will run about 100 with the 525 and very well built. on a budjet a htm ss24 will produce great numbers too. both have a lot of room in cockpit. i just bought a 2001 htm ss24 for 39k with a 650hp na bbc that runs 98 on gps. it sold new for 108k in 2001. in my opinion both are great lake boats but probably not made for big water. good luck
