I am curious as to what divorce and bankruptcy have to do with one another. I have been divorced twice and never filed bankruptcy. Just sold the stuff and paid it off or payed the ex half of the equity on everything and moved on.

My GF had to file BK several years ago because of an unfortunate auto accident, some A hole saw an opportunity to not avoid a situation. She nosed out of a parking lot and caught herself but the guy basically drove into her bumper and cried all the medical crap you could think of, cars were barley damaged as it was very low speed. Heck i only saw hers and she had to point out the damage. Anyway she was a single struggling mom at the time and was literally between insurance companies by days over that weekend. Ended up having to file BK. She purchased her first home (mid hundred K range) only two or three years after that and her score is now like 790. She basically just managed all her finances very well and was never late on anything. Used her remaining credit to her advantage and started building it from day one after the filing. Lived within her means and just stayed on top of it. Start rebuilding now it just takes time.

Default Yup

In my case like alot of them things are tight and when you have to pay your ex a bit over 3000,00 a month and ad in you are burried in your home and have a son in college. and next year a daughter, so you have to keep whats the most important the home and there schooling. the other stuff all the has to be dumped. From what i understand medical and divorce are the # 1 causes behind bankcrupcy. It is some thing i never ever thought would happen. I worked so hard on paying every thing like clock work, But it all fell apart. I love boating and know this isnt an easy fix, I also know it is gonna take a while . I was just wondering if any one has ever went threw any thing similar.

Credit is no where near what i used to be. Based on my experience, your BK will affect you till it drops off your record in 7 years. A 790 credit score that we look up online to check our score, is really a 690 credit score for the actual people making decisions on your credit worthyness. Its rough out there and hard to get credit, in most shapes and forms.

In 2005 I had a business deal go south (about 400k worth), I never filed BK. I have been paying the debt back for 7 years. I make well over $200,000 a year, no late payments in 7 years, and I still have problems getting loans. Yes, I have been able to get credit since then, but it started with 18.9% loans, to 11% loans, down to 8.2% loans. 8.2% sounds good until you see advertised rates of 3% to 4%, then you want to choke someone. Especially after 7 years of doing the right thing!!!

The credit companies still list 2005 public records as a reason for not being credit worthy. 4 years ago that would be unheard of. One example: Someone suggested joining a Credit Union to start the process of rebuilding your credit. No credit union, at least the 500 that I have called, will even consider a loan if you have "anything" and that means anything listed on your public record. So that eliminates all credit union loans for at least 7 years, since your BK.

Unfortunately, a BK will stay on the credit report for 10 years. You can re-file every 7 years. Other types of derog do fall off after 7 years but the BK is a 10 year mark.

Tell me about it. I just sold my boat last week and payed of the loan. I contacted the bank where it was financed and they would not refinance me for a new boat saying credit score and history. at the time they bought me 2 years ago my score was a 690 not great but ok with the loan at 24 months old made 36 payments and my score now is a 730 and they would not do it. the only derog on my report is a late payment 30 days on a student loan from June of 06. It was very hard to find a loan for another boat and it wasnt a lot of money under 20 grand for a 32000 dollar valued donzi 28zx. I ended up going with usaa. there were no questions asked and they went 120 months due to being below 80%value. However the intrest rate is a bit rediculus they are the only ones I could find on short notice. I think I will take out a line of credit on my against my equity on my house and pay it off. finding funding today sucks.
