Default Relo FL to VA, how do I move all this stuff?

Been threatening to move to the DMV (DC,MD,VA) area for a while and finally took an offer. Took the "lump sum" relo lottery instead of moving services since I'm keeping the FL house.

So now I'm in the Dulles Corridor, with all my stuff back home. Garage full of tools, projects, parts, house full of furniture, and oh yeah...the dogs (3), kids (2) and girlfriend. Plus my Hornet project.

So anybody care to share ideas and experiences of moving a bunch of stuff like this? The Donzi is just a hull, so I can put one small block in there, maybe another in the cockpit; plus a bunch of other stuff. I also have a 5x8 utility trailer to fill up. But I'm thinking I might just try to wheel that into the back of a 26' box truck and pile stuff on top.

I'll probably end up moving my parents back in the FL house, so some furniture might stay. Of course I can leave most of stuff down there too, but I've got to bring my tools/projects to keep me busy on the weekends...

Handful...you need to hook up with an indy trucker that will work with you. You can get everything you own in a semi box trailer. You just have to figure out the load/unload logistics. Find a temp warehouse with a loading dock on your end to unload once all your stuff comes up from Florida.

Don't rely on the hauler to do anything...you'll end up pissing him off...and engineer this deal where you tie his trailer up for the minimum amount of time.

I had a friend that moved all his mess including a 32' Sea Ray Pachanga, a F-250 pickup all his tools and furniture from Ft. Lauderdale to Dallas for $1200. Check with U-Ship to see if you can hook something up. The secret to success is to handle the logistics on both ends like a pro and this can be painless.

Lookup Sean Stinson on here...he is hooked up pretty tight with a lot of folks and might be able to send you in the right direction.

Let me know if I can help.

Good luck with this....seriously.

Welcome to the area! I work literally 5 minutes from Dulles airport and live in Chantilly - I also have a Donzi and she lives over at work!

So your boat will be in the area.. have you started looking at the water around here yet?

Wish I could help more with the moving aspects haha.

Thanks for the moral support!!! LOL I have to take this long way to end up in Richmond...

You have to let me know when you're heading to Summit Point. I never ran there but I'd like to get back on the track. The biggest elevation change in FL is at Daytona - from the top of the banking to the bottom... I raced at Rd Atlanta-there's some good stomach aches there...

We still have to get together....I'll shoot a PM with a number. Got room for another Donzi over there?

Thanks John. I've been mulling this idea over, if I can find a suitable container or something.

BTW, I hadn't been on here for a couple months almost. It looks like the banana boat finally got donated. heck, I could've given it away...LOL

Why do you want to end up in Richmond? (where I am)

The schedule is on NASA's website. Do you still have a track car or use a street car? (I just moved to HPDE3 and will be without an instructor from now on). Summit is the end of April and again June 16th (I'll likley miss the April date). VIR just, outside Danville VA is actually a much better track. 400ft elevation change and Paul Newman is quoted as saying VIR is "heaven on earth". 3.27 miles 17+ turns and in my Charger 140+ mph straights. BTW: Summit is 2.5 hours NW from Richmond, VIR is 3 hours SW from Richmond. (Probably 1.0 hrs/3.5 hrs from Dulles area)

Also: JOTJ is awesome. I too hitch a ride these days and hopefully you can too. It's worth the effort to get here (even if you still lived in FL)

You know, I didn't even make the connection till just now haha. I did think that was a bit odd - all these folks w/ Donzis coming to Northern VA.

What is your time frame again?
