Is a go fast an advantage?
The last couple years i have taken the Formula 400SS on the local poker runs, This year i have a new Cig so i am taking it.
In the past when we head out to Havasu ( myself and wife ) we have usually ended up with a crew of about 10, Now everyone has been great and we have had an amazing time, well Desert Storm is coming up and already have gotten the calls. Hey Dan, hows it going, hey think i can catch a ride, What? oh really no room :( ok well cool have a great time. But for me i will have way more fun running the Cig than the Formula but will miss all the people we have had going with us. Guess ill have to buy my own gas and beer this year :) |
We have more fun on our cruiser than the Fountain when on our normal every weekend water. All our friends pile in, have the dance floor, bathroom, running water and tons of room. On the rare occasions we travel and take the Fountain, then it's just usually 4 of us. A different type of fun, but always a great time none the less.
|
Have them get a hotel and meet you there! I have had 11 on my cig just to run to a sandbar party but 6 is max for a poker run.

Somewhere i seen a cartoon in a boat mag of a boat that had a atm machine on it and the capt/operator had his hand out. The passengers had a very surprised look on their face...lmao...
|
When I was first shopping in 2002 for a new Go-Fast, my GF asked "Why not get a cruiser so we can take a group" ?? I looked at her and said, you just answered the question.
My idea of boating was always two couples, or her, two of her friends, and me. |
My friends head for the bathroom when the bill comes!:evilb:Go fast more places to see in a day!

Boating to me is about quality not quantity. One mabye two friends and me. If I wanted a dance floor, kitchen, lounge etc. I would go to a nite club.
|
I stopped taking groups out. 4 or 5 max now, alot more relaxing and easier to manage.
"Are you going up to the islands this weekend?" - potential guest "Yep, I'll meet you there!" - me |
I don't have your guys size boats... But I love having people on board. They pitch in a few $$ for fuel and stock the cooler. 6-7 people is fun!
|
I Used to keep my passenger amount to 3-4 on my 24'. My 41 Avanti is comfortable with about 7-8 there's lots room in the cockpit to move around. I haven't had it on a poker run yet but I'd stick with around 6 people for safety. I agree though it's nice when friends pitch in for beer, fuel, etc.

My patience for big groups has dropped on my boat, nobody pitches for gas, I am lucky if they pick up a towel when we pull out.
If I am spending a few hundred a fill up and nobody is pitching, I better like you or you aren't going. Not paying extra in fuel to haul their ass around. |

How often do you run from cleveland to the islands? How long does it usually take you? I'm want to head up there this summer with my Avanti but I've never done the trip by boat.
I intend to make 1 run a year from Sandusky to Cleveland with the Gun just to do it. I wouldn't mind running up to Detroit/Lake St Clair with a faster boat. |

Years ago I was putting my boat into its dry storage, and the guy next to me had his whole crew helping unload and wipe down the boat. I was like damn, my friends piled out at the boat ramp and took off for home. I have a different group now, and we all pitch in and clean and unload each other's boats. It makes for a MUCH better time. :) |

Time to trade in your friends for some new ones. :)
:) On one of my trips to Havasu we got home late and just parked the boat beside the house, when i got home from work the next day there where my friends washing the boat. Now that was a great surprise. It's nice when people don't take getting a ride for granted. |
I won't take my friends' money for gas. I don't think any of them even understand how much it costs to run the boat, because the few times one of them has offered it's usually a 20 in their hands. Really, I don't want my guests to think about that when I take them out. But they always help me unload and then wash the boat after we get back to the dock. Oh, and they usually bring beer. :D

for us it was econmics big cruiser big bills between dockage and worrying about it at the dock to winter storage to the crazy gas bills the cruiser never really gave me the need for speed fulfillment with my current boat it fits in the garage no worrys i tinker with it at home and on our days out we bring a friend or two but usually raft up with others we know still lots of fun

The way I'm seeing it is that a guy needs both. Powerboat all day then go back to the Lake house (which I don't have yet) let the lady's get all cleaned up then head out in a big ass Searay for dinner and dancing. :party-smiley-020:

H2O toie,
Your TG is one or my favorites, but your 400 SS is the bomb anytime: |
Guess I'm the odd man out. I love having a few more people in the boat with me and my wife, more fun that way. Thats one of the things I love about my parents 'toon. Load it down with 14 people and go party. Depending on what we have planned I usually cap it at 6 - 7 people total in the Baja.
I also never accept gas money except for the big poker runs where we agree to split it before hand. I'm going to ride anyway and I invited them. It's not like its costing me anything extra to bring them. Seems pretty ****ty to ask them to pay. Kind of like inviting someone over for dinner and making them bring their own food. I do expect them to help clean up at the end of the day and usually don't turn down a beer if they're buying. :D |
Big Group - Small Group - I really don't care as long as it is the right group of friends. If they aren't starting fights or deliberately damaging the boat I'm game for the company (as long as they don't want to go out for 30 minutes and then come back in!!).
As for the gas money - I wouldn't accept it if they offered it. |

A friend of mine has the 70's bumper sticker quote painted on his dash. "Gas, Grass or Ass, Nobody Rides for Free!". I laugh every time I see it.

As for the gas money - I wouldn't accept it if they offered it. I have never asked anyone for money, maybe it's just the friends i have but quite often when we get gas someone will pitch in or pay for my lunch, things like that. but on the flip side when i have ridden in someones boat i do the same. Now not everyone has the $$$ ( which is fine) but they seem to be the ones that help clean. Again i have never asked them to help but most ( not all ) want to pitch in someway. Another thing i'm not talking about going on a harbor cruise or putting around the lake but on runs where you are going thru 100's of gallons of fuel. |

So does that mean when you go for a run in someone else's boat you don't offer to pay for some of the gas?

I like to have at least one other couple come along especially if we are doing a solo boat ocean run. Anymore an it gets too crowded.
Dan, I think your Formula would be a blast at DS if you want a constant party. On the other hand, if you have people with you, you're kind of stuck with them the whole time. It would be hard to have to tell someone they have to stay on the dock because you want to go by yourself. Plus, the Cig kind of fits in better at that kind of event. This year I'm going to be the one bumming rides so the shoe is on the other foot! :D But, at least I will be an experienced boat biatch so hopefully I'll be some help to whoever is driving and will be buying food and drink :ernaehrung004: |
