Outerlimits SV29 Tops V-Bottom Class in Desert Storm Shootout

A little more elaboration with quotes from Mike Fiore and relative information to another boat in the class, http://speedonthewater.com/in-the-ne...-shootout.html.

with a 600 SCi no less

With a reported top speed of 101 mph, the next-closest entry was a Howard 28’ Bullet V-bottom powered by an 1,100-hp supercharged engine.

Nice product Outerlimits has built.

AugiePensa 05-02-2012 01:35 PM

Congrats Mike and your crew

Sbarberdds 05-02-2012 01:36 PM

Thats incredible, just curious why they went with the 600, arent they discontinuing that motor, my guess is because its still a bravo boat and they can target a more attractiveprice point . Hope they can keep it around 150k plus trailer and paint and i think it will be a good seller

Iirc it was quite a bit more than that. Closer or just over the $200k mark if I recall.

Beautiful boat but more than I am willing to spend currently.

Was the 200k with trailer, paint and options, if it was than base price is probably round 150k

Wouldn't that immediately put it out of warranty?

There was a long thread about it after the Miami showing.

Dont hold me to it but I think it was starting at near $200k without trailor or many custom options. , We are shopping in the $100k and I recall being disappointed cause it was no where near that cost.

I will see if I can find the thread to confirm that though.

Love the boat though...went Miami to see it as I was looking forward to it very much.

Edit here is one here F/S $199,950 and with trailor. So guessing one ordred to your liking will be just a touch more.

WildThing47 05-02-2012 02:06 PM

Yes, it's just another stupid comment, the motor isn't tweaked with, they want to keep the warranty.....give them the credit they deserve...it's a great running combination.

Now I would like to see what this does with a pulley and a increased rev limiter....

Impressive and Congrats to Outerlimits!

That might be good enough for a class win at the real shootout but they are going to have to pick it up a bit come August if they want a shot at the real title ;)

Look forward to seeing the boat at LOTO!

The 2012 version of the Donzi Green Hornet.
One of a kind.

Call me cynical, but faster than a 28' Howard with 500 more HP??:eekdrop:

This price includes trailer, paint, painted bottom, carved carpet , upgraded stereo and other options, base price is right at 150k without all these. Which is a good price.

Congratulations Outerlimits! Wow they have some amazing engineering going on over there. :drink:

I had questioned the Weird 3 step bottom (bottom is so different then any other outlerlimits) in another thread but it obviously works!

I also have said this boat is very small IMO, does not look like a wave crusher. But again, obviously that helps make it fast!

Super happy for Outerlimits. Glad to see more and more sweet boats in the market.

We do have to wonder though if Whipple played the game "just the tip" while spooning Outerlimits in bed! :lolhit:

Its all good, no hard feelings. Not surprised that its the fastest, just surprised how much faster it is then anyone else.

Can anyone post some numbers of other 28-30ft singles?

Brad 05-02-2012 04:15 PM

How fast is a similar sized single engine cat like an Eliminator or DCB with a 600HP? That’s Freaky Fast in a V!

mittens 05-02-2012 04:18 PM

put the 1100 in the outerlimits...

Top Banana 05-02-2012 04:23 PM

Great job OL. They worked hard on this boat, I remember the plug they ran last summer.

In the end it was well worth it, once again they set the bar very high for the other boat mfgrs to catch them.

Just checking, did you mean 'anyone else' at the event, or did you mean 'anyone else' everywhere?

This ones pretty fast.....28ft mid 90's so the ad says, any other Vector numbers out there?

http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o42795-en.html

TUFFboat.....I meant any other single I/O V bottom 28-31ft with similiar HP. I personally have not seen or heard of any other boats running over 100mph with only 600hp.

The 2012 in the classifieds is ours. I ran it on a busy Saturday on LOTO the day Mike Fiore delivered it to us. We ran down the main channel at mid 90's for almost 10 miles. One of the most fun rides I have been on in a long time! I am going to bond with the boat this Saturday for the Spring Harbor Hop also on LOTO, its going to be almost 90 all weekend!!!

Is the OL 22 or 24 degrees?

Sbarberdds 05-02-2012 05:40 PM

What would be a similar twin engine setup to the 600 package and what would it run with like twin 502hos at 860 total hp? Ol builds vee bottoms that are as fast or faster than catamarans

AB From Windsor 05-02-2012 07:25 PM

All I can say is 102 MPH or 101 MPH, Mike Fiore and the OL Team did a great job on the OL SV29. Congrat's!

The 900hp 90 mph seems a tad slow too. Those are just examples I pulled off of powerboatlistings for comparisons sake.

Mercury is allowing market to decide the fate of the 600 by how many they sale. The 565 was not available at the time of the build and the customer wanted the 600.

Yes, PCM cal voids warranty. Its under warranty, I can guarantee that. In fact, Mercury Racing engineers rode in the boat and brought a new PCM with a Rev limit update. The change was instead of fuel cut, its spark cut because this boat wants to go so much faster and keeps hitting the limiter that it was much safer while testing gear/prop combos. With 5 rather healthy guys in the boat, 50+ bud lights and ice, anchors, ice chest, 90deg F outside, the boat still went 96mph and was climbing. This is a very fast V-bottom and its handling is unlike any boat I've ever been in. I can't say I've been in all of the similar boats, but from the ones that I have, this is simply night and day. One can say all they want about it, but you have to ride in it to truly appreciate it the performance of this boat.

stainless 05-02-2012 08:05 PM

We just installed a SC on a 27 Eliminator open bow, it ran 105mph and that has 775-800hp and weather was in the 60-70deg F range. Closed bow would run 4-7mph faster. But thats got almost 200 more hp.

We've done a bunch of 25 and 26 with 496's and SC's, roughly 600-625 and they go low to mid 90's.

Sbarberdds 05-02-2012 08:32 PM
