Jumping waves trouble!
I just got done with my cigarette bullet project it has 23 pitch 3 blade prop. And when I jump it (props out of water) I pull back on the throttle until the boats back in the water and no mater how fast or slow I push them down as soon as I do it the rpm goes up to 6,000 ad in not just the guages you can hear the motor scream so I have to stop and plain out again. Does any one know what it could be do I need bigger props??? The boat had these props before I owned it..
Thanks Brett |

Thanks Brett |
that three blade is pretty worthless for any performance application. You need B1's minimum, could also be much of your problem.
|
Yea, those 3 blades probably run faston the big end, but they dont bite like a 4 blade. I would be looking at B1's for the boat. You will pick up some mid rande, and have a lote more bite in the water.
|
I had a scarab do the same thing years ago, went to 4 blades problem solved.
|
my hawk did this the other day with the bravo 1's but my x is too high causing a fair amount of slip %
|
Brett, My old 32 BT with 3 blades would blow out all the time. Switched to 4 blade Bravo 1s and problem went away. A lot of these boats had high x dimension to run the number but it made it hard not to blow out with 3 blades. The 3 blades were faster though on top end. Hope this helps.
|
More blades will probably fix your problem, But, Instead of pulling back all the way while your in the air, try to keep the motors & Props at the speed they need to be to re-enter the water smoothly. Like pulling back half way. this will let your drives live alot longer as well. I raced offshore using 3 blade Mirage props with a high X dim (Before B1's came out) and didn't have a problem as long as my prop speed was consistant with the boat speed on re-entry.

+1. Sounds like he may need a little more seat time in rough water. I'm running old mirage 3 blade props with no problems. A 4 or 5 blade is also going to be harder on drives on re-entry.

Brett is BT46. He and his father a very good friends of mine. I have ran on a couple poker runs/ weekend runs with them and will fully assure you that this young man knows how to drive/throtte/keep aware of his surroundings. As far as rough water goes, LOTO on a weekend let alone a holiday weekend is as rough as Texoma with the wind blowing. I know, Ive been in both and watched cruisers turn around trying to leav HP marina. I do understand your meaning behind learning to drive the Bullet, however with the seat time Brett already has and the multitude of boats that he has to drive and does drive (5 of them with the bullet being near the smallest i believe) I would say he is going to be ok. Brett - listen to these guys on here about the 4 blades. That would be my first thought along with not dropping the R's as much maybe. Thanks again for the invite last week, I was sick as a dog and couldnt make it over. Chris |

Doesn't matter if he has 1000 hours behind a 40ft fountain or 46 black thunder. Those boats are much more forgiving. |

Agreed about the size of the boat and some of the tendencys - lord knows that the smaller beak boats I had were much more nimble than the BT's ive owned. U better have the Apache out this coming weekend - what a great boat IMO. Hope all is well with the family bud.... may be moving back soon. :evilb: |
Thanks every one!!! I am trying to buy 4blade now.
Brett /texomapowerboater I ran a 27 formula with twins for years and never had trouble so I think il be ok |

Doesn't matter you phucking azzhole. Every boat is different........and its rather obvious this guy hasn't spent a lot of time driving a 31 bullet. I've had to learn all over again on every single boat I've driven. And I don't consider jumping cruiser wakes going down a long river "rough water" either.

When you have rough water seat time in a 31 Bullet, then you will be qualified to give advice. When you bring your boat to LOTO on a holiday weekend, you will be qualified to discuss rough water there. Until then, this post, like most others you make, is worthless.
I don't consider Texoma to be rough water either cept for the occasional days with 30mph winds and Texoma is roughly 60% bigger than LOTO with large main spans; not a long river. We have holidays here too |
Now that the possibility of driver error has been eliminated I would also suggest trying new props and I would definitely look at the X dimension to see if its been raised.

Try som Hydomotive Intimidator 4 blades. Will also give some stern lift. It really woke up my F311 with 650 HP per side.

BT46,
I'm asking about your set up to assist me in my rebuild, are those 23's mirage plus ? what kind of drives? what are the engine center-lines? what is the prop shaft height set at. i have an 84 30 scarab I'm sticking w/ my TRS drives my engine center-lines are 34" i read a thread on here that TRS liked to be between 4"-5" prop height, on old straight V hull, but now i can't find the thread! hopefully i'll be safe 4.5" again, not here to tell you how to drive, or whatever the heck happened to this thread. just here to learn some so i get it pretty close the first time. good luck getting the bullet dialed. thanks dan |
here we go again.... griff thanks for all the help youve given me over the past year.. TEX.. hitting pot holes with your trailer does not constitute rough water.. i tried 3 blades on my pantera twin and i ran into the same problem as your having brett. i run B1 26's now and i have a set of 24 and 26 hydros to try out if i ever find the time. you can email me the pics of your bullet and i will throw them up for ya.

I never called you "phucking azzhole" or any other names and am mature enough to not have to go there. Are you telling me if I told you my buddy has more rough water seat time than you do on the toilet you wouldn't consider it a personal insult? LOOK Griff its raining!! |
Man, WTF is wrong with some people????
Does every phucking thread on OSO have to go to the chitter now? (Shaking my head) Brett, I have some experience with 31 Bullets  Mine came with a 27 Mirage Plus 3-blade on it and i switched it over to 26-pitch 4-blades. It picked up about 4-5 mph at cruise and didn't lose anything at full speed. So, most of the advice given is good that you've received. What I have never seen is a 31 Bullet that came with a high X on it. So, unless someone has raised the x-diminsion, a high x is not the source of your problem. ;) My Bullet was the easiest boat to drive that I've ever been in. Get it on plane, trim it and go. No tabs needed unless there was a big wind going on. I sure miss my Bullet!!! :D |
