How to f*&k with a Craigslist scamer?
So I'm trying to sell one of my parents boats on Craigslist and I get this interesting email back from this guy. He 1st asked what my firm price was. The 2nd email was this:
Hi There, Thank you for getting back to me. Can you assure me that it's in good condition and that i will not be disappointed with it. I'm ready to pay your asking price and to be honest, i wanted to buy this for my son, but the issue is I'm not in state right now, I'm out of state for coaching program where i stationed for my rugby coaching. But I'm able to access email anytime as we will make use of laptop so my only quickest payment option is PayPal as i can send money via PayPal anytime.Since I'm requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the paypal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don't have an account with paypal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to open one. Just log on to www.paypal.com. I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? I have a mover that will come for it once payment clears and they will take care of very necessary paper for me. So i look forward to hear from you soon. I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal email address so i can send the money now. Best Regards. What suggestions do people have to f^%k with this guy? |
I got that same email when I sold my boat, and a bunch of others like it. Not sure how to mess with them.

I have noticed the scanners have moved to paypal. My question is how do they pull it off using paypal?
|
if you use the paypal link they provide in the text it usually takes you to a spoof site. look at the address at the top when you go to it and it will look slightly different than paypal's. they are just hoping you log on to their fake site then they have all your info.

These scammers and info grabbers are thicker than flies on the internet! Do not communicate or mess with them! You are the one who will get burned!
Moral of this story is "If its to good to be true on the internet - IT IS!" No one who honestly wants to buy a boat is going to do a transaction like this sight unseen and start talking payments until they have seen the boat and noegotiated a price and payment." Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |
Hey !! I just got this one too.... whats his email..??. Thanks for the response and I'm satisfied with the condition of the Boat..I am OK with the price and i will love to make an instant purchase because i'm buying this Boat for my dad as a surprise gift, I'm located at Escondido,California. but due to my occupation as a marine engineer at this moment i am presently working offshore, sometimes access to regular emails and phone calls are very poor in offshore due to inefficiency of the immarsat service.Fortunately the internet access working averagely and i was able to come across the advert of Boat . I really want the Boat to be a surprise for him by not disclosing the Boat until the delivery is made to him,so am sure he will be more than happy with the Boat. I don't mind adding an extra $50 for you to take the advert down from the site so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the Boat. I insisted on PayPal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my PayPal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your PayPal email address so i can make the payment as soon as possible for the Boat and i pay they charges and please if you don't have PayPal account yet,it is very easy to set up, go on http://www.paypal.com and get it set up,after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with PayPal so as to put the money through....Notice you don't need to bother your self about the shipment and the international health papers,i have an international courier shipping company that will come to your location for the pick-up,they will also determine and secure the shipment so let me have the weight very well so that a waybill can be created before shipment can be done....So I will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the making of the payment.
1.Your PayPal Email Address. 2..Your phone number. **Once again ,I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping. I will have my mover come over as soon as you have your money in your account** [email protected] |
I agree with Ray. Just move on.

If I had $5 for every BS craigslist spam I get I would have sold my boat twice by now. Currently I'm getting porn links responding to my Craigslist ads.
|
If you think you have a scammer write him back with you phone number and tell him if he is truly interested for him to call you. Chances are he will not call if it's a scam, if it isn't and he truly is interested he will call! Anytime I have an ad and get those emails I do that and I neveer hear back from the scam posts.
|
Someone must come in person to inspect the boat. I don't care if they send their grandmother but someone who represents them must always come look at the boat. I don't care if it's your best friend, what you think is a nice boat may be another's crap hole. It is a must with every boat I sell.
As for the scamer....forget them and move on. |
I got the same message today from our armoire ad in Craigslist.

I messed with one of these guys on ebay- said had a new 30ft cig. For 25k in england and with my payment could have it in any east coast port in 5 days!! I asked him if he could get it to the "port" of friendship, me. (a tiny fishing town) he assured me he could
i had him firing back excited emails-told him i sent payment ,resent payment, etc he then got pissed and i got a couple threating em in nigerian- english my last response was a big smiley face w/sucker under it |
Since you will be the 1 on the receiving end of the money use the reverse scam on him. Tell him you don't like to use pay pal due to their anti gun attitude :waffen093: Tell him you want money sent via western union:boat: To spice it up include a link to western union and tell him how there are locations thruout the world and how easy it is to do :wizard::champs::flag:

I got the same email today except it came from Tonya whom was unable to phone due to her assignment wiyh the USAF. She said she wanted to buy it a a present for her father.

Always remember when logging into Paypal, You type www.paypal.com it automatically adds the HTTPS://www.paypal.com. Notice the "S", Means secure. Always pay attention to that on any website where you are completing transactions.

I get them with everything I sell . So now when they contact me I send them this back . : Congratulations you are the first to contact me about buying my boat . In order for me to secure you as the buyer and take it off the market I need you to send me a $1000 cash deposit . Please enclose a name and number and I'll contact you when I receive it . Thanks
The funny thing is they never contact me back . They must loose interest or find another boat for a better deal lol ! I'm gonna $hit if an envelope shows up in my deposit box on day with a $1000 cash in it . I guess as long as they come in person with the balance in cash they bought a boat . |
I wish there was a virus that we could send them to take there computer out of commission for a few days.

it doesn't matter what you say to them. and it doesn't matter what you put in ad about cash only, etc. i even had them send me the same thing along with stuff about cert check-blahblahblah when the ad for the boat said FREE!!! just delete the email and move on. one possible way...use your phone number and not the email link.
|
Did you get a phone #? If not, try to get a phone # from them and then drunk dial them for the next couple of months. That's what I did.

My brother was selling his Jeep and got one of the "I have money from customer but the check is for $4000 more than asking price...". For the hell of it he played along. The guy sent a cashier's check(obviously fake) with a return address in the states, but the FedEx package had a stamp from Latvia. LOL
We played along with him sending him happy emails like, "Hey great news I got your check, i will send you the $4000 I owe you soon", etc, etc. We went on and on and finally told him that we decided just to keep his money. He called all kinds of pizzed off and of course could barely speak English. |
I'd advise against screwing with them. I've seen people get hit with viruses after they messed with scammers.

As promised:
"Re: 2004 Lavey Craft Nuera Mid-Cabin - $54000 (Lake Dallas, TX" We are located close to each other so why not link up for cocktails soon? I do realize this is for sales but I could not reject the urge, you seem interesting. Could we chat at this moment, I have used this site previously and it's really good - I was hoping we could meet up there and learn about each other much better! ;) I have already downloaded personal pics for you, all you have to do is join (don't get worried, there's no cost). I will message you as soon as I see you log on. I promise you will NOT be dissatisfied! www materialdu .net" |
