Ilmor help

Since we ar on the subject of ILMOR...
I was looking at a 2006 Advantage 30' Victory with twin ILMOR MV-10 550s. The boat is immaculate, the only thing is the owner claims to not have any way of knowing the hours on the engines.
He said the factory hour meter didn't ever work, no big deal, he would just hook a computer up to them before the boat goes on the market to sell it to verify the hours.
But it turns out that on that year and model, the hours can't be read by a computer.
Is there any truth to this?
This is the only thing stopping me from making an offer.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Zach Thomae
