When I had my cruiser docked at Lake Erie I used to listen to the ship to shore while cleaning for comedic relief.
One particular time I was listening to some brothers trying to describe to a towing company where their boat was.
Seems they had run hard aground while trolling. His description of their location was "by dah bridge". When asked which bridge he replied "dis bridge", "it right here beside us".
About his time, me and all my neighbors within ear shot had stopped our chores to enjoy the show
This went on for probably 15 mins until the tow captain had described every possible, local bridge and finally had a match and we all knew where he was.
There was a partially submerged/collapsed building foundation that they had managed to drive across and now were stuck within it's boundary. To top it off it was too shallow to get the tow boat to them so they had to send a diver w/the tow line ($$$).
Best part was when the tow boat captain radioed to ask where they wanted towed to once free.
The fisherman replied, "right here good". When quizzed about their disabled outdrive he replied, "we be fine, dah fishin good, we goin no where".
Was the story of our marina for the rest of the summer....

Yrs ago I hit an underwater obstacle leaving me dead in water at PIB. Radioed the tow company for a tow. All I had to do was to key the mic on my VHF and he was able to find the direction I was from him by some type of antenna single strength meter.
