Thumbs down Long Island boat crash

Saw on the news this evening that a Skater with twin outboards crashed into the back of a 35 Hatteras at 4am this morning. One fatality on the Hatteras. I wish I was paying better attention-I was visiting someone when I caught part of the story.
Two things came to mind immediately, Speed, and 4 am.
Thoughts and Prayers for all involved.

Holy Sh*t, That sounds like the same thing that Killed Mike Whitmire ( Of Flight Marine), They where hauling the Mail up the Intercoastal in Ft Lauderdale at night and ran right up the back of a Hatteras (type) boat. Really sad to hear. Prayers out to the families...

Poor judgment sad for all involved. Kid with skater I beleive is a frequent s&f'r. Sounds like a good kid just made a bad decision. Very sad for man that passed away and his family.

Default Detail from news report

The catamaran pilot, Brian Andreski, 26, was charged with boating while intoxicated.

The sportfishing boat owner’s son Richard Leigh, Jr., 42, had invited Mannino along for the annual Bay Shore Mako fishing tournament, according to Leigh’s mother Barbara, 73.

He was one of five passengers on the Silver Bullet, a 1967 Hatteras model boat. The other four people are safe with minor injuries, police said.

When investigators arrived at the scene of the crash, they found the Skater upside down and sinking, with a gaping hole on its left side, and the Silver Bullet nearly sinking and severely damaged, said a Suffolk County PD spokeswoman.

The speedboat’s pilot and passenger were thrown into the water. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Andreski was hospitalized.
